EA seemed to be a lot more interested in innovating when they had competition from 2K Sports. Now they seem to just tinker and update the stats. I have to wonder just how many people that have on the NHL team nowadays.
They must have some type of stats to justify the resources devoted to NHL, vs number of return buyers. I wonder where the tipping point is - just how many improvements must be made to tip the scales enough for last years customer to buy the latest version? Do the forum complaints/suggestions matter?
In this case, I have to think that putting women's players & teams in the game, and a Creation Centre on the level of FIFA's (or actually licensing NCAA teams and minor leagues like ECHL etc) would increase their sales considerably. The resources needed to do that are not huge. Much of what's needed is already in place.
The Fort Wayne Komets ECHL team average around 8,000 fans a game. I bet sales of NHL 13 would go up in Fort Wayne if it included the ECHL teams. If they had NCAA teams the sales would go up near college campus' - especially if it included both men's and women's teams. We are talking about relatively easy additions that would increase sales.
Plus I bet they would win every Sport Game of the Year award there is, even beating FIFA. But it won't happen. So I will go back to playing FIFA.
