Re: NHL 13 creation zone updated?

It would be really cool if EA released "all star" versions of some of their games. Just filled with classic teams instead of current teams. Even if it's C91 or something, have a roster share. And the games wouldn't be annually, maybe once or twice a console generation.

While I think that's a solid idea, money and profit dictate that this would be unlikely. Although I do think as consoles move towards 100% digital downloads, something like this could and should be implemented. I don't know what the ceiling is for graphics, but at some point I can see a game being released and then just updated and patched for years, adding gameplay enhancements as they become ready and tested.

Someone at EA will just have to figure out the best way they can monetize that, because that's ultimately what it will come down to.

I think it would hold up just fine, in soccer Konami has been doing this for about a decade now with PES. They don't hold the licenses to many of the world's soccer leagues but they provide a robust enough edit mode so that people create their own and they have come up with some fantastic stuff. This has been going on since the days of the PS2. It's things like this that really make me hate EA.

Their game has made great strides in the last 5 years but they just refuse to add features that are standard in many other sports games. NHL 2k8 had a fantastic selection of historical teams and a multiplayer franchise mode, things NHL 13 five years later still won't have. EA just doesn't care. I think Reiny09 hit the nail on the head when he said that EA doesn't want their game to have a long shelf life.

EA seemed to be a lot more interested in innovating when they had competition from 2K Sports. Now they seem to just tinker and update the stats. I have to wonder just how many people that have on the NHL team nowadays.

They must have some type of stats to justify the resources devoted to NHL, vs number of return buyers. I wonder where the tipping point is - just how many improvements must be made to tip the scales enough for last years customer to buy the latest version? Do the forum complaints/suggestions matter?

In this case, I have to think that putting women's players & teams in the game, and a Creation Centre on the level of FIFA's (or actually licensing NCAA teams and minor leagues like ECHL etc) would increase their sales considerably. The resources needed to do that are not huge. Much of what's needed is already in place.

The Fort Wayne Komets ECHL team average around 8,000 fans a game. I bet sales of NHL 13 would go up in Fort Wayne if it included the ECHL teams. If they had NCAA teams the sales would go up near college campus' - especially if it included both men's and women's teams. We are talking about relatively easy additions that would increase sales.

Plus I bet they would win every Sport Game of the Year award there is, even beating FIFA. But it won't happen. So I will go back to playing FIFA.

I think this is the absolute wrong year to say this about the NHL team. From 11 to 12 you might have been able to say that but definitely not 12 to 13.
