The job gets harder every week. I'm getting letters from fans about who they feel should be our top quarterback, asking why I would stick with Alan Williams, why we haven't won more, if were going to play Boston College next year. It seems like half the job is on the football field and then there's so much more going on off it.

Our players drop like flies, contusions had Alan out for a month, which is insane, Deion Walker still hasn't returned with several setbacks in his recovery and our offense just hasn't been efficient. We are coming off a game that we had several opportunities to win and while our schedule will hit an easier point at the very end, heading into that small break won't matter if we hit it at 2-7/2-8..

I honestly feel overwhelmed, this task is massive, every position needs to be scrapped or the incumbent starter is graduated. Deion Walker and Paul McIntyre leaving is going to absolutely kill us. Only half way through the season and I want to quit, things can't be this bad..

Re: New Era -|Tyler Koch|- (NCAA 13)

Falcons players celebrate following a late interception

Falcons crush Minutemen

(Amherst, MA) - Despite all the shortcomings this season, one thing held true. The Minutemen were undefeated at home. That is no longer the case following their 38-15 loss to the Bowling Green Falcons who improved to 6-2 and picked up bowl eligibility. The Minutemen fall to 2-5 and are just two games away from a losing season.

Massachusetts quarterbacks combined for 47 attempts and only completed 15, their offense ran the ball 22 times and picked up 18 yards. Of the 47 attempts, four would be intercepted (3 Doyle, 1 Pagel). It's hard to believe that this was a 14-0 game heading into the half (1 OFF TD, 1 DEF TD). Things got blown wide open following the break at the half.

Matt Schillz had a solid game, going 23-45 for 280 with three touchdown passes and a lone interception. Samuel would add 95 yards on 23 attempts along with a single touchdown. Tanski led the Falcons in receptions (7), yards (80) and tied for first in touchdowns (1). Seven receivers picked up at least one reception and five in total would pull in multiple receptions.

AJ Doyle would go 13-42 on the day an abysmal 30% completion percentage, his three interceptions are another mark against his record. Pagel in relief would go 2-5 with a single interception. Michael Cox who last time in Western Michigan would post an above 5 YPC would fall to a 1 rushing 16 times for 16 yards. AJ Doyle adding one yard and Carini with another. Deion Walker returned to action and led the team in all categories, five receptions, 81 yards and one touchdown. He also the most drops with three, Minutemen receivers totaled nearly as many drops (10) as the quarterbacks did with receptions (15) despite only two sacks on AJ Doyle, the quarterback had a sense of uneasiness in home territory.

Paul McIntyre was absolutely dominant at the middle slot recording 15 tackles, six for a loss, deflecting two passes and forcing a single fumble that would be scooped up by Hunte. The lone positive for the Minutemen may be the 41.5 yards per punt Strait averaged, but that number dipped substantially with a 29.9 AVG net yards, pinning the opposition inside the twenty once.

"This is one of those games that you really have to study the film on. When your thoroughly beaten, your weaknesses come out. Monday were hitting the film room, a game like this is unacceptable, we plan on working with Doyle and Pagel to improve awareness and pass accuracy while work out our special teams" Spoke Tyler Koch to an unhappy Amherst press reporter.

The MAC had another week of great in conference action and a trio of out of conference games. Outside of conference boundaries, the Eagles of Eastern Michigan end their losing streak with a 28-25 victory over the upset minded Black Knights. Buffalo welcomed Pittsburgh to NewYork and ended up losing a fairly close one in a 14-26 defeat. Toledo would play a bad host and upset the Bearcats at home 27-17.

In conference, Bowling Green destroyed the Minutemen to the tune of a 38-15 whalloping. Ball State traveled to Michigan to face the Chippewas and won by double digits. Western Michigan picked up bowl eligibility dismantling the Golden Flash 41-17. Northern Illinois knotted their record up at .500 with their win over Akron.

Re: New Era -|Tyler Koch|- (NCAA 13)

Doyle tosses another interception late in the game

Commodores knock off the Minutemen

(Nashville, TN) - Freshman AJ Doyle is embarrassed in back to back weeks, this time the Commodores forced Doyle into a 19-45 day, two hundred yards, a single touchdown and five interceptions, including one brought back for the score. Doyle has been getting more and more resentment from his fan base and two 4+ interception games in a row will do nothing to help that.

The Commodores defense held strong throughout despite a weak offensive showing. Carta-Samuels had a terrible game, going 8-23 for 93 yards and one TD/one int, Stacy would grind out 127 yards on twenty-two carries, but he would be shut out of the end zone. Stacy earned offensive MVP honors for the Commodores, leading the team in rushing and receptions on a day where the winning offense got smashed.

How off was the offense? They had 56 less yards in total, only outgaining the anemic Minutemen ground game, over 100 less passing yards than a team whose quarterback tossed up five interceptions, converted on three third downs accounting for nearly 50% of all of their first downs (7) which they were nine off the total the Minutemen posted. The Commodore offense actually never managed to get into the red zone, yet they won by the double digits.

The five interceptions was a huge key, as was the Minutemen's 25% efficiency in the redzone, failing twice on two point conversions and giving up a safety when for some reason Deion Walker muffed a kick off and dived on the ball in the end zone despite the nearest defender being over forty yards away "I don't know man..just used to being told to dive on fumbles, it's just instinct.." Spoke Walker who despite the blemish had a solid game.

Michael Cox got 14 carries, getting fifty yards and no touchdowns, the lone rushing touchdown coming from dual HB/WR Elgin Long who took off on a big thirty yard scamper running on the strong side of the field. The passing attack was the Deion Walker show, targeted thirteen times, he caught the ball seven of those times and recorded no drops, recording sixty-one yards (also a team high) while not scoring a touchdown (Hill recorded the only reception touchdown).

Again it was the defense stepping up at an odd time and yet again it would be Paul McIntyre leading the charge, his nine tackles (4 for loss) leading the team in both categories and Tharpe managed a key interception that led to a late touchdown to bring the game down to a two possession lead. Yet it was the Commodore defense that stole the spot light.

Hal and Barnes both got two interceptions a piece, Barnes notably having a touchdown to show for one of the interceptions, while Hal managed to reel off a few extra yards after the catch. Garnham led the defensive unit in tackles with eight while also bringing in a lone interception. It was Andre Hal that would close out this one, his interception in the final moment killed a good Massachusetts drive by nearly pulling the ball right out of the hands of the receiver.

The Minutemen fall to 2-6, currently on a three game losing streak, they will take on the Northern Illinois Huskies next week in MAC action. The Huskies have won four straight and are one of the hottest teams in the MAC right now.

MAC News

The MAC is embarrassed in out of conference play and in conference upsets set the pace for this week in the Midwest. The Mid-American conference played three out of conference games and lost all three, the Minutemen were embarrassed by the underachieving Commodores, the Army Black Knights option attack claims another MAC victim, this time it's the 3-6 Ball State Cardinals biting the dust. The Golden flash traveled to face off against the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers, but ultimately would prove to be insufficient as they fall to .500 on the season, the Scarlet Knights pick up bowl eligibility after dropping two straight.

Eastern Michigan stuns the Falcons and picks up bowl eligibility in the process, while also maintaining one of the best records in the MAC. Quietly the Eagles have taken the MAC over and could be contending for the title. In a battle of the bottom half, the Akron Zips pull off a rare victory, this time over the Chippewas who haven't been consistent or very good since the graduation of QB Dan Lefevour. The Huskies stun the Alex Carder (All-MAC) led Broncos in Kalamazoo 19-14, and with an instate rivalry, the Ohio Bobcats absolutely dismantle Zak Dysert and the Redhawks in their 37-7 victory.

In one of the bigger upsets of the season within conference play, the hapless Buffalo Bulls managed to knock off the Toledo Rockets. Buffalo picks up their third win of the season and wins their first game in conference this season against a team picked to contend for the title. The Bulls held the Rockets to 69 yards in the air and picked up 217 on the ground while adding another 236 in the air, effectively smothering the Rockets.

Re: New Era -|Tyler Koch|- (NCAA 13)

Elgin Long lays a massive special teams tackle in the loss

Huskies leave the Minutemen buried in snow

On a cold, snowy day in Dekalb, the Huskies continue their winstreak with a big 41-21 victory over the Minutemen. The Huskies continued their hot streak despite temperatures plumetting to nine degrees prior to kick off.

Despite the loss and a poor completion percentage, Tyler Koch was optimistic about AJ Doyle. "The weather made conditions difficult, it isn't going to be any easier when we head back to Amherst, but he showed tremendous poise in the pocket. He was making reads and scrambling intelligently. Factor in drops and passes because of the weather, his completion percentage would double" Spoke Koch of his freshman quarterback.

Doyle would finish 12-38 with 183 yards,2 TD and 2 INT. Doyle ranked as high as twentith in the NCAA for passing early in the season but after some high totals in early games, he came back down to earth and has been posting much more average totals. Colarusso made a few big grabs and finished with four receptions, sixty-three yards and a touchdown. Deion Walker would add on a modest thirty-six yards on three completions. Ther receiving corp combined for six drops, tightend Rob Blanchflower leading the way with three.

The offensive line would allow three sacks on Doyle, while recording a pair of pancakes. They also led the way for Michael Cox to rush for 80 yards on seventeen attempts. Elgin Long added a big run of 23 yards of his own, while AJ Doyle finished the game negative with the sack yardage totaling more than his ground contribtutions.

Jordan Lynch for the Huskies was absolutely lights out, easing the worries of Huskie faithful watching him decimate the Minutemen secondary, going 23-30 for 348 yards, four touchdowns and one interception was hugely instrumental in this victory. Schepler led the way with seven receptions and 125 yards while being held out of the end zone. Eight Huskies caught a pass on this snowy afternoon, with Ashford leading the team in touchdowns with two, Womble and Semisch each added a lone touchdown.

Akeem Daniels was a threat on the ground, the offensive line plowing through the Minutemen allowing Daniels to pick up 176 yards on the ground along with a pair of touchdowns. Sterling was the only other Huskie to finish positive in rushing yardage, the Huskie offensive line only allowed one sack the entire game, an all around strong showing for this Northern Illinois squad.

The Huskies continue their winning streak in a big way, as the Minutemen fall to 2-7 in their inaugural year, their other two counterparts posting winning seasons in their inaugural years. "We chose the difficult path, we played no FCS squads and we've kept a few games close and beat teams experts said we had no business even being with twenty of, this team has heart and determination, the execution could be done better.." was an excerpt of the speech given by Tyler Koch.

The Minutemen will face the helpless Zips in Akron, Ohio while the Huskies will be getting next week off, a valuable chance to recoup and get a breather in, since the Huskies seem primed for a repeat MAC championship.

MAC News

A rather calm week of MAC Football as the pecking order holds, opening things up it was a snowy Saturday in Dekalb, despite the weather and frigid temperatures, the Huskies beat up on the Minutemen winning 41-21 improving to 5-1 in conference play behind the arm of Jordan Lynch. The Bobcats maintain with only one loss after managing to hold off the Eagles of Eastern Michigan in overtime, 41-38, this loss is their second consecutive after a hot start.

The Golden Flash are just one game shy of bowl eligibility after their two touchdown victory over the Akron Zips, their annual rivalry game ended without much drama, the Flash got ahead early and never let go. The Buffalo Bulls rubbed salt in the wound, welcoming Miami to town and sending them out with their losing streak intact, the Bulls would knock off the Redhawks by 4, the Redhawks went from being a top contender for the MAC throne to a bottom feeder.

Closing out MAC action for the week, the Western Michigan Broncos took on the Chippewas, on the road the Broncos laid a beating on the Chippewas with a 45-14 victory, the win would have it's own loss however as CB Lewis Toller suffers a gruesome ACL injury that could end his career. Where to start? Deion Walker still isn't completely recovered from his abdominal tear, Alan Williams is questionable and has already missed a month, Hafis Williams will potentially be back for next week against Buffalo, and we lost our best offensive lineman, Nick Speller to broken ribs, he is gone for the season, tough to tell the kid his career was over but it was just the facts, I really wasn't expected the reaction I got, this job really isn't glamorous like some people might think, maybe at the bigger schools but it's a real grind here.

AJ Doyle rebounded a little against Northern Illinois, he is still a little wild, he is running a faster pace than I'd like and has been throwing the ball over fourty times a game which is ten more than I'd like. He is -8 in TD's to INT's, but his 1785 yards and early season performances have me keeping an eye on him. His 47% season completion percentage really needs to go up though.

Michael Cox has been a bit better than Alan Williams, he has 389 yards (more than Williams) and a higher YPC (4.0) and he has three times as many touchdowns, but it's going to be a real battle to see who starts, both are seniors, I can't give one senior precedence and let the other guy sit, it just won't work that way.

Oddly enough it's Colarruso leading our team, but his speed has been a difference maker, he isn't the fastest player I've coached but he is the fastest receiver on the active roster and it shows, there's a solid distribution of passing on the field, but I wouldn't mind knowing our top receiver had more than 24 receptions. The offensive line hasn't helped matters much, 28 sacks this far into the season, it's embarrassing, hopefully we land some solid recruits and players mature good and we can pull in a much better offensive unit for next season.

AJ Doyle celebrates a touchdown pass in their victory over the Zips

Massachusetts ends their streak, blowing out the helpless Zips

(Akron, OH) - "Not today, this one's ares" Spoke Paul McIntyre with the defense huddled around him. The defense responded allowing only 127 passing yards, while also making some key stops. The Akron Zips fall to 3-8 following their latest loss in what is the Masschusetts last game away from Amherst. This victory is the Minutemen's first and only victory on the road all season, finishing 1-6 on the road.. "Those games are different, it's a whole different atmosphere, preparation is different, everything is different. We weren't prepared" Spoke Koch on his teams dismal track record outside of Amherst. One positive is that the Minutemen could advance to 4-1 in Amherst if they close out with a three game win streak. "I'd love to take the last two, but four wins is our goal at the very least, we've outperformed predictions, now we just need to keep it going" Koch spoke.

Akron allowed 220 yards on the ground to one of the worst rushing teams in the nation and also allowed the Minutemen their highest 3rd down conversion percentage of the season at 60%. The Zips inversely wouldn't toss an aerial touchdown and despite all of their struggles managed to convert on 42% of their third downs. The Zips managed no punt return yards on four punts. There would be an over 230 difference in total yards between the two teams.

Moore went 11-20 for 123 yards and an interception, while also adding 119 yards on the ground, his mobility led the team in a big way and kept this one from being even uglier. Chisholm, the half back didn't manage to do too much on the ground but he was the leading receiver for the Zips with twenty yards and four receptions. Moore would be sacked four times.

AJ Doyle continues to have an odd freshman season, completing 61% of his passes while tossing 302 yards, but also adding four interceptions, his saving grace would undoubtably be his three touchdowns and high completion percentage which is a 14% improvement on his season totals.

On the ground, Michael Cox picked up 184 yards with an avg over 8 yards per carry including a huge 63 yard run, breaking into the endzone twice and solidifying the starting running back spot even if Alan Williams returns in time for Buffalo. "I saw holes opening up, I managed to keep moving forward, it was a great day all around" Said Cox. Elgin Long added 47 yards (4.7 YPC) with no touchdowns. Deion Walker was a huge aerial threat in this one, pulling in five receptions for 115 yards and two touchdowns including a 79 yard touchdown reception on a fade route.

Despite the solid performance, one thing head coach Tyler Koch will be emphasizing is tackling. "There was too many attempted arm tackles and bad positioning, they broke way too many tackles on us" Spoke Koch, Zips runners broke eleven tackles.

The Minutemen improve to 3-7 and will face the Buffalo Bulls who are on a two game win streak at 5-5 they are seeking to crawl out of the MAC basement and earn bowl eligibility, while the Minutemen were ineligible to play in the post season regardless, they step in looking to put a damper on the Bulls season, with several recruits in Amherst, this will be a key game for the Minutemen.
