Re: Bayer Leverkusen - CM

Adler sold, Hyypia unhappy

Rene Adler has completed his move away from Bayer Leverkusen to English premier league giants Manchester United. However there is controversy behind the transfer as it appears it was the decision of the club and not the manager. In a brief interview with Sami Hyypia the former Finland player was not impressed: "I rejected a offer from Arsenal over €11M because i believe Rene is worth alot more than that not because i refused to sell him. Then the board decide to accept the very first next offer we get which was only €8.5M from Manchester United. It doesn't matter though because i'm only the manager!" The departure means that Adler is the 3rd player to leave Leverkusen this summer while nobody has arrived but with 1 day of the transfer market remaining things could change.

Although Bayer Leverkusen dominated they left it late to grab the winner in today's match at Augsburg. Sami Hyypia's team controlled the game from start to finish but it took them till the 86th to take the lead with a goal through combining subsitutes Barnetta (assist) and Kiebling (goal). Fans were furious after seeing Leverkusen losing 1 of their best players Rene Adler then failing to spend any of the money from the deal on the last day of the transfer market but perhaps this performance will change that. Leverkusen now sit in 4th place in the Bundesliga 5 points behind league leaders Bayern Munich who have won 5 out of 5.

This is a good read, nice to see some Bundesliga action. I remember watching the Bundesliga weekly highlight show every morning overseas - that commentator who does that is so iconic.

Good work - nice, clean format.

--------------------------------------
A horrific mistake from Leverkusen goalkepper Leno 1 minute from time cost his side a point in today's Bundesliga match. Leverkusen were by far the better team during the whole game with a point to prove after last weeks 5-0 thrashing however in 89th minute a blunder Leno handing a easy goal to Wolfsburg striker Sio. Leverkusen manager Sami Hyypia was far from impressed after the match: "It's poor cross really with no power on it and would have been easily cleared by 1 of 2 of our defenders waiting on it but Leno for some reason dives out and palms it straight to Sio. I have no idea what he was thinking because you would'nt see a mistake like that in a under 7's match." Unlucky or not this is Leverkusen third straight defeat and they will need to turn it around quickly as they currently sit 11th in the league.

Uefa Power Rankings
Wednesday 1st October 2011

1. - Bayern Munich Bayern Munich have been in superb form this season and claim top spot in the Uefa Power Rankings. Runaway leaders in the Bundesliga with 8 wins from 8, 19 goals scored and only conceded 3. There's no doubt Bayern are the no.1 team in world for now but for how long can they stay there?

2. - AC Milan Second place goes to AC Milan thanks to their unbeaten start this season in Serie A. The Italian giants have only dropped 2 points from their first 6 games and have a highly impressive 18 goals which averages out at 3 goals per game.

3. - Benfica Benfica have been the form side in Portugal this year with 17 points from a possible 21. More impressively though is their 20 goals in 7 games while only conceding 4. They sit top of the Primeira Liga but only 3rd on our table.

4. - Marseille French leaders Marseille have had strong start to their season in Ligue 1 which sees them undefeated in 9, winning 7 of those games while conceding only 3 goals which gives them the best defence record in Europe.

5. - Chelsea It's been a pretty good start for the 3 time premier league champions as they currently lead the Barclays Premiership. Chelsea also remain the only team unbeaten in their league this season and look to have what it takes to challenge the Manchester clubs for the title.

6. - Barcelona The most talented squad in the world had a pretty lacklustre start to the season so far. They sit top of La Liga and with 18 points from a possible 21 it looks not bad on paper but averaging 2 goals a game is not the Barcelona we know. They will improve though that is certain.

7. - Ajax 7 wins and 1 defeat from their opening 8 games it could be a lot worse for Ajax. They may not be the dominant side they once were in Europe but they are still a match for anyone in Holland and they have proved that yet again this year.

8. - Borussia Dortmund Dortmund are the 1st team on our list not to be currently topping their domestic league and with 20 goals from 8 games, only letting in 3 and still undefeated they find themselves unlucky not to be top of the Bundesliga. Unfortunately Munich have been slightly better so far but it's a long season and if they keep up this form they definitely rise in our rankings and possibly above Bayern too!

9. - Valencia Valencia currently separate the big 2 in Spain and that's a good a reason as any to have them on the Power 10. Only 2 points behind La Liga leaders they maybe be able to challenge for the title however they will need to vastly improve on their record of 11 goals from 7 games as it is simply not good enough.

10. - Spartak Moscow Last but not least 10th position goes to Russia's Spartak Moscow who sit top of their domestic league. With 7 games gone they have a record of 5 wins and 2 draws which is not to be laughed at not to mention they have scored the most and conceded the least amount of goals in the league.

With Mega clubs such as Real Madrid, Juventus and Manchester United all under performing so far this season it will be interesting to see how they improve over the next few months.

Re: Bayer Leverkusen - CM

Nice to see Marseille get some recognition - they are truly a powerhouse. French football in general is a bit underrated, it's some of the best out there.

Nice update on the power rankings - look for Milan most likely to crumble mid season like they always do :P
