This would be a great logic and it will keep the CPU from only looking at numbers when it comes to starters.

In all actuality an A or B is still a numbers scale; this scale would be more of a range factor and the CPU would over abuse that range. B- players probably still shoot higher than their actual percentages.

You make a good case but it would be hard for a basketball game to switch to this format. I think overall ratings are meant to be looked into deeper anyway. I'm not sure I 100% agree with this. But its easy to understand where you are coming from.

I myself am in favor of the overall rating being hidden or non-existent, but understand that would not be a unanimously favored decision. Doing so would risk alienating the casual gamers/fans who feel they need a rating to (albeit, not entirely accurately) know who is good and who isn't. I think having the option to set overall rating to hidden when starting an association (on or offline) would be a fair compromise for those of us who prefer some intrigue and like to choose who to play and acquire based on skill sets and how they actually perform on the court rather than a magical calculation.

Perhaps a good alternative would also be an aqueous "value" rating, based on different skill grades, age, consistency, upside, importance to team (depth at the position, role he fills) to at least serve as a barometer for whether or not a trade is fair.

But the reality is, numerical overall likely is not going anywhere, but it would be nice to at least have the option to hide it

Didn't you make this same thread before? I actually like having all the numbers except overall. I don't see a point in converting all the numbers and just having letters. You need the numbers to separate a 71 from a 73 say in mid range shooting. Instead you would have to give the same C rating or so to player two different players even if one is slightly better. In the end if they want to hide overall rating I don't care then can go for it. They just need to make sure they have a special category so they can make sure the trade market value is correct.

Nothing should be hidden ... nothing should be uneditable ... all should be customizable to try and fit our own unique perception of the players ... convert the overall into what it is: a subjective perception of whos better than who ... let the attributes and tendencies be unbiased and based on facts (thus also editable) ... a players value, is purely subjective, therefor should be an entirely editable value !

To all who are like there is this is still an overall, this just shows offensive and defensive scores, not overall.

I like the getting rid of the overall number idea.
Could a trait system alongside the tendencies and attributes not help the players play more like their rl counterparts and also give some character?

If someone plays like a ballog then they have ballhog trait and do just that.
If they are 3pt shooter they have that trait and shoot more threes than not,
a great rebounder with rebounder trait rebounds better than tose without,
Shot blocker trait blocks more shots, turnover trait and they lose the ball a bit more. Maybe it could work by giving the attributed player different or circumstance specific animations or boosts?

Another thing the overall is an output of all the other attributes and ratings that go into a equation that they use. I don't see 2K opening up to tell us every detail of their ratings some things are basically in house and will never come out. Like I said before I don't care for overall if they could convert all the ratings and attributes into a final summary that might work.

Kobe Bryant:

Superstar talent: basically after you enter all the ratings and attributes you get broken down into some class superstar, all star, defensive specialist, etc.
Strengths: Mid range shooting, great post game, clutch shooter

Weaknesses: 3Pt shooting, past prime

In the end I don't see 2K doing this because all this does is convert the ratings into another overall which we already have.
