by the way fiddy, do you think this will do the trick as well during the regular season? could post it here how you adjust their strategies...that would be greatly appreciated. thanks.
will it do the trick in the regular season? yes, start a season mode, make sure you select all teams as user controlled. turn off all injuries and turn off asst edit lines etc.

with the above turned off the cpu should not make any adjustments at all. best way to test it out in a test season would be to play a few games against say the Kings or Nashville.. which im going to do that myself sometime tomorrow in the evening.

will the strats be 100% perfect? nope, but they have helped with 2K10 big time and may do the same here.

how to change them, go to coach settings, strategy, and you then can change all the strats for all teams in that screen. make adjustments, back out, then make sure you save it manually.

i always save a season, then make a separate save for me to use as the main file. then if i want to start over just load up the original and have at it again. just saves ya from having to add the adjustments again.

ill also post in here what strats i am using from 2k10.. (kudos to nyrfan'88)!!

Re: Team Strategies (CPU Adjustments)

i used this as a base (from our NHL 2K10 file).. obviously EA dont have all these options below, but i basically matched up what i could and used that.

i suggest setting up a playoff mode, that way you only have to edit 16 teams, see how that plays for ya etc and post back here.

im going to try and get some games in today and see how it goes. if all goes well, ill start a season with all teams user controlled, inuries off, asst edit lines off, and have at it. save one as a base file so if i want to start over i wont have to reassign the strats.

Attack Style

Stay Back: LA, Min, Nas, Pho and St.L. D-first teams. You could make an argument for Dallas to be in here but I look at them as "semi D-first" team.

Cautioned: Bos, Chi, Det, Dal, Phi, TB and Van.

Balanced: All remaining teams

Breakout (for all teams)
Board

Dump and Chase (for all teams)
Line 1: Low
Line 2: Medium
Line 3 and 4: High

Fore Check
1-1-3: TB
1-2-2: Dal, LA, Min, Nas, Pho and St.L.
2-1-2: For all other teams

Back Check
1-4: For Dal, LA, Min, Nas, Pho and St.L
2-1-2: For all other teams

D-Style
"Zone" for Ana, Buf, Cal, Car, Cbj, Edm, Fla, NYI, Ott, TB, Wash and Win
"Box + 1" for Bos, Chi, Col, Det, Dal, LA, Min, Mon, Nas, NJ, NYR, Phi, Pit, SJ, St.L and Van

O-Style (for all teams)
Line 1: "Positional"
Good for speedy and/or technical guys. The D will shot if the shooting lane is open - more wristers then slappers from what I can tell.

Line 2: "Behind the net"/"Triangle"
Great for cycling and the D will chip in with blue line slappers. One D will creap in looking for a one-timer if the opportunity is there. Depending on your gameplay settings, you may see a fair amount of one-timers. The risk with the formation is, that you will essentially have 4 players closing in or around the net as only one Dman will (typically) hang back. This could create odd-man breakaways. Make sure to have an offensive and a defensive Dman paired together.

Line 3: "Crash the net"/"Overload"
Straight forward, crash the net. You'll need big players to crash the net effectively, so make sure you have your hard-checking line in when you attempt this move.

Line 4: "Crash the net"/"Overload"
Straight forward, crash the net. You'll need big players to crash the net effectively, so make sure you have your hard-checking line in when you attempt this move.

PP1-4 (for all teams)
"Umbrella". It's the most commonly used PP style/formation in hockey.
"Low" dump and chase with "aggressive" attack style

PK1-4 (for all teams)
"Movable box"
"Cautioned" - forwards will still be semi-aggressive (at times) with poke checking and shot blocking (assuming you have it set at a good level in your gameplay sliders). Dmen will hang back.
"Very high" for dump and chase. You will get a lot of zone clearing.
NOTE: If you want your PK units to be aggressive and put pressure on the stick handler, use "Wide Box".

Re: Team Strategies (CPU Adjustments)

i tried only 1 game (sorry just bz this week) so my observation seems not enough to observe the big change. ill try this again because if NHL 13 fails my expectations, i will do your suggestion for my next BGM.

Re: Team Strategies (CPU Adjustments)

btw, fiddy, do you think editing the players, specially in L3, L4 and D3 by giving them -10% to make a difference between them and L1,L2 and D1, D2 would help seeing the difference between superstars and grinders?

i dont think so. its been done in the past i do believe, editing like that and it did nothing.

you know what i noticed today though while messing around with edits. every player in the game uses the same stick flex and stick curve. why the heck do they have all the different options, yet have every player set to the same flex and curve? terrible..

I also then changed the CPU Strategy Change Slider to 0.

The game played a lot better for whatever reason. With that said, I was up 1-0 with a min left, the Canucks had all kinds of pressure on me. They didn't pull the goalie.

I remember someone stating that when that's at 0 they won't pull the goalie. Can't find that thread. So does anybody know if they will pull the goalie if that slider is set to say just 1?

Heck, the game in general played better. Maybe I'll just leave it there and deal with that small issue.

Has anybody else played a season like this controlling all teams and having their strats set to how they play?
I`m doing playoffs using all the teams too,....for the strategy sliders I think I`ve got all the sliders set at 3 and I`m getting great results.

The only thing I have to do is make sure that when I get a lead that I don`t let my coach keep me in defend lead,....I prefer to run in a conservative breakout when defending a lead, except for maybe the last few minutes of a game I might go into it if desired.

I don`t mind letting the "coach" do some of the strategy changes,..as I`m playing and changing lines, and faceoff alignments, and making strategy adjustments too,.....but it`s a chore to make every one,and even more so when you`re doing it on the fly.

The cpu won`t pull the goalies until there is 30 seconds on the clock,....it should be doing it between a minute and a minute and a half left at least....so that will be something to check with NHL13 or to give the devs a heads up.
