So other companies don't do this?
I've asked multiple times in this thread for an example of a company doing this within 6 months of the initial release of the game and within 3 months of the DLC coming out. I'm still waiting for a response. It's the first time I've ever seen something like this and it's very disappointing coming from 2K.

Some of you guys really need to go into the real world sometime or take a business class, because you just seem to be missing the point. You are not owed anything for buying something when it was first released, 2k owes you nothing the game came out 4 months ago this deal is just an attempt for 2k to pick up a few dollars off people who did buy the game and are now getting excited about the NBA again, this has nothing to do with you the first day consumers, seriously I would love for you to try to get a refund on anything you purchased 4 months ago based on the price it is today, go ahead go into a Bestbuy and tell them you paid 2000 dollars for a TV and today that TV is 1200 dollars and you want them to give you something to make up the difference, because that is basically what people are asking 2k to do and are upset about.

Dude sports games have a shorter shelve lift than other games, within 2-3 months the game will be cheaper than it was on release, Black Friday 2k was selling for 20-30 dollars less on Amazon, hope that answers your question so you can stop asking it.

It doesn't... Because I'm not talking about the game, I'm talking about the DLC. You guys say this happens all the time yet no one can name one instance for me.

I have 0 problems with the game being cheaper, but why is the DLC included and I'll still have to pay $10 for it when I bought the game 5 months ago?

If you took a business class you'd realize you don't piss off loyal customers, which is exactly what they are doing.

Stores usually have price guarantees and if an item you bought a week before goes on sale next week you can still go in and get your refund. Anyway, this has nothing to do with that. No one is complaining that the GOTY is $50 not $60. They are complaining because the DLC is included in that $50 and will still cost money to those who bought the game day one for $60. It's just a bad PR move. Like was mentioned earlier in the thread, if the GOTY was $40 and DLC stayed at $10 I wouldn't be upset with this news at all.

You're comparing apples to oranges by comparing TVs to videogames. Also, no one is asking for a refund. No one is even really asking for the DLC to be free, (other than me because it just seems fair) they are just voicing their displeasure with this news. Which I think is perfectly valid and so should you. Just because companies do this consumers doesn't mean you should just sit back and take it and be happy. That's a bad precedent to start.

That's just cold hard facts. If that's "enough" for Spank and Pared...that one. single. change. then that's cool.

I am sure most other people probably think it's not enough though. We then get labled "complainers"

It seems to me anyway that "expectations" pre release were that more than one players body weight being changed would be done.
Aye Monk, Court, whatever - We've been doing this for years. You complain about things you can't grasp and I try and put it in perspective. This song and dance never gets old.

You really need to stop comparing the PC versions to a console version. Welcome to 2003 and earlier? The COMMUNITY has long been involved with modding PC games - in what way does that have ANY impact on what 2k mentioned? I mean, we're going in circles here - something happens, you point to the PC version and some guy from China updating player faces when he has nothing better to do. O-k......? Seriously - just leave it out of the conversation. You can't be so clouded as to not realize community efforts are going to be better than a gaming company that has their job on the line. This has been the case as far back as High Heat Baseball, MVP and Madden on the PC.

Now, we can't even get back to the topic because you continually are focused on the console version (do you even play the console version?) when we are supposed to be discussing this offering. The claims about DLC are warranted - people paid for this after paying $60 for a 4 and a half month old game. The problem I have is people complaining that their day one purchase warrants some sort of loyalty discount. Since when? What game offers you this I would ask, since people want to pose that question? Little Big Planet was released at full price $60 then a GOTY edition was offered that INCLUDED paid DLC. Mortal Kombat is looking to the do the same. The difference? These are not sports titles that are released annually. No other sport has had to endure a lockout that has hurt sales.

You (and those that "like" your posts as if you are arguing world hunger) seem to not realize that I don't have to like something to argue for it. You can't see the "forest from the trees." 2k's marketing division gets paid to sell the game - that's what they are doing here. I understand the points being already made about the updates, but that has NOTHING to do with this discussion.

You paid for a game, not a subscription service.

Re: 2K Sports Announces NBA 2K12: Game of the Year Edition

Pared (and I'm just speaking for me here), the issue is 2K just released the DLC 2 months ago and now it's being offered as free with the GOTY content? The timing is messed up, as 2K strong-armed us into buying the DLC by doing things like not allowing us to edit players on Classic Rosters.

I get the GOTY concept and have used it to my advantage with non-sports games, but typically, those editions come out closer to a year after the initial game dropped. I understand sports games are on a different cycle so it needed to come out now (Mar. 11), but again, that still doesn't excuse 2K from pushing the DLC on those of us that wanted the ability to edit rosters, only to turn around and give it away for free.

That's the frustration on my end.

Fair enough - that's the topic. But when do you expect them to release something like this - during the playoffs? I'm sure sales for the DLC have completely dropped off. Same goes for the game. It's an incentive.

Monk/CV - you should probably step away from the keyboard before you make a post you will regret if you can't avoid being personal.

Some of you guys defend 2K like you're on their payroll. God forbid someone voice their displeasure with the untouchable 2K. Good grief.

From my perspective, I would say your first post was a little personal. I would be offended, but I don't know your guys' relationship so I may be off base. I know your say goes and not trying to disrespect, just offering some perspective (granted I didn't see the posts that got him banned).

These are my feelings exactly. I think the GOTY concept is actually a great idea. I am completely 100% for 2K trying to gain profits and find a way to spark the interest of the casual sports gamer.

I just think they could have done it in a way that didn't involve giving something for free that others paid ten dollars for only 2 months ago.

Maybe a new cover design, or even just the poster would have done the trick. Maybe even having like 100 of the actually signed by MJ, Bird, or Magic and having them randomly in games (I realize that might not be possible).

Just some kind of idea that would increase profits and not have the consumers that already bought the product feel slighted, in my perspective, would have been their best move.
