I REALLY wish I could say yes. But at this point I'd have to say no.
I'll probably pick up NCAA 13 because I'm a die-hard fan of the game, but maybe not release day so they don't get those impressive numbers after the first week to sorta make my point...
It just sucks because we're at the mercy of what they make. They know we'll get it.
Most times it's not about if, it's just when. So ultimately they decide how good the game is and with little motivation, why would they wanna make a new engine/great game?

Yes. And the vision is is not there at all. Not even close and it shows.

A great sports game takes both. You do know that right?

Look at The Show and NBA 2K.....these two have outstanding presentation. Light years better than EA football games.

I gave up hope after Madden 11 fell flat on its face. Wont see a great NFL game until the suits at EA and the NFL realize that a great football simulation will sell games.

STOP POLLING 11TEENYEAROLDS ON WHAT THEY WANT AND START BY RECREATING WHAT WE SEE HAPPEN ON THE FIELD THROUGH OUR TV SCREENS!

To answer you...NO''!!!!! Not out of EA at ALL, That's why it's not fun having just one company that can make football games, Just because we can answer you for 2 or 3 years down the road, Heck We will NEVER see a GREAT football game out of EA....Look how long they have had to make one'!!!!! Through all the systems up til now and don't have a Great game, So why would we think they would be one Next year, Or 10 years down the road????????? NO, Not know, Not later, Not years from now

I say no. They need to scrap the programming logic and build something that is based on read-and-react. Currently they use a setup where "Action A" is going to result in "Result Z" and then animations fill in the middle.

There are so many things that happen throughout the course of the play in real life, but EA Sports has taken those little things and made them "filler animations".

Let the players have keys that they react to with a success rate that incorporates their ratings.

That is the single greatest improvement the game can achieve to be "real".

I agree, Dan. Good yes, but most likely not "great'.

I'm not sure about this generation, but I think when Madden comes out on the next generation, it'll shock the (sim) world. Just my opinion though.

I do think they can leave this generation on a good note though, maybe not a great game, but a good one that's actually worth playing over the course of the game's year.

The minute games become "too" real, is when games don't become fun anymore.

There still has to be a sense of knowing what's going to happen. Video games are supposed to differentiate from the real thing; otherwise, we'd be using virtual simulators by now.

I agree with your overall point though. Just not sure we need to have complete control over players, that's going into using the left and right triggers to run, and using modifiers to stiff arm, catch, etc.

Re: Will there be a great EA Football game this generation?

Three things can make NCAA 13 a great game.

1) Fix Gameplay: NBA 2k has good gameplay, FIFA has good gameplay, MLB The Show has good gameplay, and NHL has good gameplay. Make ratings, weight, height, and vision matter. Also, fix the ball physics. I can't tell you how stupid it looks when the ball bounces off my WR's helmet.

2) Add Atmosphere: Use stat overlays, adjust crowd noise (very important), give the sidelines life (why is NCAA/Madden the only two games with absolutely terrible looking sidelines?), and give us dynamic commentary.

3) Change Recruiting: There needs to be more to it than just the stars. Diamonds in the rough, 5*'s who turn out to be busts, and let there be a difference between the guy who is loaded with potential talent and the guy who comes in and knows the game of football. Making sure weight and ratings actually matter is huge when it comes to recruiting.

There you go EA, 3 things you can do to make a great game. And why do I know I'm not being unrealistic? Because every single fix I listed has already been done in a another game. It can be done EA, so win all our hearts back and go do them.
