Sounds fun. I actually saw a TV add for this last Wednesday (while watching a UFL game on VS.)

Joined and played a game. Look, for a free coaching simulator, it's certainly good enough to appeal to some people.

It seems to me that the selling point of this is that it's browser-based. In other words, anyone should be able to play it in a lot of different locations. However, the fact that you need a 70MB download and install seems to detract from that a TON, b/c I CAN'T simply log into any computer and play a game.

Beyond that, you're left with something that's free, but also lacks depth of playcalling, substitutions, onside kicks, and so on. Not even to mention GM stuff like trades, free agents, and even drafts and retirement. While it is a football RPG, once the play starts, everybody's number turns to "00" for some reason, so I have no idea about the name of the guy who just made a play, and it doesn't even display it for you immediately following the play, so I don't have a personal connection with the players on the field.

Not trying to bash a free upstart product, just pointing out some of the not-inherently-obvious shortcomings with the game that anybody playing it would notice on their own the first time they fire it up.

Good analysis. I agree with much of what you wrote, but do take note that the game is still in the beta stage, meaning you are playing an incomplete product. I find this weird myself given that they are airing national commercials and really pushing advertisement hard on an unfinished product, nonetheless it has potential. This format can be continually updated, so the game will always be improving... something console based games cannot do. It also has very little risk to try, only your time

Re: Quick Hit Football Interview

Kasey is right though, the clock milking definitely needs to be addressed.

I've got a team with Tony Dorsett and Dexter Manley as my legends. I love how if you feed it to Dorsett enough he eventually breaks one or two long ones.

Wish you could pull back the camera in this game, too. And audibles.

Those are the two things I'd like most.

Re: Quick Hit Football Interview

Damn, just had my first close game.

Had the ball down a TD with 0:20 to go but pulled it out 22-21 with a 80-yard TD by Dorsett and a two-point conversion with 0:06 left.

Dorsett's stats:

Quote:
15 carries
201 yards
3 TDs
My secondary is getting torn up and my QB sucks, so I think I need to boost those positions.

So far I've seen Dan Fouts and Randall Cunningham, both of whom have shredded my secondary.

Re: Quick Hit Football Interview

See here's what sucks about the milked clock:

I just played a half where I had 0:09 seconds of possession.

Thankfully Dorsett was good enough to take the one play I had to the house for a TD as the half expired.

Final time of possession: 10:55 (him) to 1:04 (me).

Only reason I won this game (20-13) is because Dorsett is god and broke long TD runs with the few possessions I had.
