I'm almost positive that you are wrong and it doesn't matter. Announcers just rarely say names in their database. Someone with the game needs to test this out (if they have time).

They use Blue Ribbon for team ratings, not player ratings. EA rosters and player ratings have always been a mess that need serious user tuning. But there's an OS roster forum for that.

The camera angles in the retail game have adjustable height and zoom levels (assuming they haven't been removed) just like in NBA Live. Those help a lot for finding your perfect camera preference.
