Don't forget that 2k has an "almost" exclusive license to make baseball games. Their agreement states that the MLB will only license to one third party publisher which killed off a few other titles...

I think what he means is they likely wouldn't both release on the same day. This would make the release feel earlier I guess. Oh, and 2k did bump their release to beat madden to the market one...
