Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?

He had more wins than anyone else during the 1980-89 seasons. Morris was good, consistent, durable. That to me does not equal dominance, unless you consider Mark Grace to be the dominant hitter of...

Re: Life threatening OHL hit

Which is fine, but this implies the suspension was punitive (and political, which of course it is), not preventive. I still haven't seen a post that illustrates what kids should be taught to prevent...

Re: Life threatening OHL hit

Money is referring to Branch (the OHL commissioner), not the player (Liambis) who made the hit.

Re: Life threatening OHL hit

I just don't see how this kind of hit is going to be prevented. If you watch the replay, Liambis is already past the goal line before Fanelli turns his back to him (please note I'm not blaming...

Re: Life threatening OHL hit

I've seen plenty of games from the 70s and 80s and don't believe there was "mutual respect" at all. Yes, players are now bigger and faster, and the boards don't "give" nearly as much as they used to....

Re: Life threatening OHL hit

There's faulty logic here. Branch should MAKE those kind of hits illegal first. How can a season-long suspension be justified on a clean hit?

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?

I think he'll make it, but "lock" is a bit of a stretch. Career 105 OPS+, no Gold Gloves, no Silver Sluggers, no top-10 MVP finishes.

Here's someone interesting who hasn't been brought up yet:...

Re: The 2009-10 NHL Regular Season

Oh, I agree. I only go to 1-3 Canucks games a year myself. The point is, tickets cost an arm and a leg and the Canucks have sold out 268 consecutive games regardless. A team with a winning record...

Re: Life threatening OHL hit

I call BS. The suspension had EVERYTHING to do with the result and nothing to do with the intention. The kid had the puck and turned his back at the last second. It was a clean, shoulder-to-shoulder...

Re: The 2009-10 NHL Regular Season

My favourite comment was the fan complaining about paying a whopping $53 for a ticket to see Pittsburgh last year. Heh. Good luck finding Canucks/Penguins nosebleeds for under $153.

Re: Life threatening OHL hit

But what's the message? Don't body check anymore? Unlike a lot of the NHL big hits this year (Richards, etc.), there was no intent to injure, no head shot, no elbow used. The kid did nothing wrong,...

Re: The 2009-10 NHL Regular Season

Colorado played to 61% capacity tonight. I don't care if it's against the Coyotes. The Avs are 11-3-2!

Re: Life threatening OHL hit

Pretty ordinary hit (perhaps a boarding minor) with a horribly unlucky result. If that's worthy of a season-long suspension, so are 80% of all body checks.

Re: Worst playoffs in recent memory

Pretty difficult to argue against the 1991 World Series, methinks.

Re: Worst playoffs in recent memory

2007 was about as bad as it gets. 5 sweeps out of 7 series. Boston's victory was pretty ho-hum compared to 2004 (obviously). Even the Red Sox' 3-1 ALCS comeback was far less exciting than it could've...

Re: The 2009-10 NHL Regular Season

Don't worry, if the Avs don't start selling out games as soon as they return from their road trip, their fans will be our new whipping boys. Denver's not among the worst markets in the league, but it...

Re: The 2009-10 NHL Regular Season

Do you know the date/time of the game? If so, I can tell you who's playing.

Already have a pair of Canada jerseys (a Brodeur '02 style and a blank Canada Cup retro), so I'm set.

Re: Another Example of Why Composites Aren't Needed

Guess what? Sid is now using a COMPOSITE stick (he used wood for his first 4 seasons) and is crediting the new stick for his hot start. Oops. As Scott would say, ;)

Re: Are all hockey fans this obnoxious?

Depends where you are. I went to a Rangers/Devils game in Jersey last year. The 5-year-olds were yelling far worse things than "so-and-so sucks", let alone the "adults".

Nashville fans pulled off...

Re: World Series: Philadelphia Phillies vs New York Yankees

Speaking of which, "comeback wins" is one of my favourite stats that the media like to talk about. You know which 4 teams had the most comeback wins? The Yankees, Angels, Phillies, and Dodgers. Not...
