Got it on PS3 and I love it but.....

.......if your looking for a true sim like 2K9 this is not your game. On 5 minute quaters you will be able to get scores in the 80's for both sides. Now I am die hard sim guy with my baseball and football games but with basketball I get bored with the slow pace that an NBA game moves at. So this game fits the bill perfectly for me. Its run and gun with quick scores coming from all over the place, but its very exciting. It plays like you would want or expect a college basketball game to play. Tell you what if they were able to make a college hoops game, I would be all over that.

Here is a big game breaker for true sim fans, there are NO SLIDERS, none at all. The only slider you will find is for the amount of fouls called, which I jacked all the way to max. Other then that you are choosing 1 of the 4 normal difficulty modes. This I dont mind as much either anymore since I was a huge slider guy until this year, now I have decided to stop driving myself crazy with sliders and just play the games and stop tweaking.

Now here are the pros and cons that I have seen in a few games.

PROS

- Amazingly clean, sharp and smooth graphics. 1080p in all of its glory, not a jaggie to be found.
- Fun, fun, fun gameplay its just easy to pick up and play.
- TNT Broadcast, feels like you are watching a game on TV
- Stat overlays galore, almost everytime down the floor something will pop up.
- Default Broadcast camera angle is perfect. Best camera ever for a basketball game.
- Crowds moving around, going up and down the steps and aisles, nice touch.
- Net and Rim physics are great, also love the dunk and layup animations.

CONS

- No Sliders, as I said I can care less but a big no-no for sim and slider nuts.
- Crowd isn't loud enough on default sound settings, lowering the announcers helps but we need the crowd to be much louder. (Maybe we can get this patched in SCEA???)
- Passes sometimes go to a different player then you intended.
- Game speed is close to perfect but could use a slight boost, turbo makes it better, but a game speed slider here would be great!!
- Lighting could use a bump, at times it can seem a little dark, courts should be brighter.
- Hightlight reel at halftime and post game is non existent, which is suprising since they are trying to make this game look like a TV broadcast.

There it is, I will add more comments as I play some more games. But right now I'm very happy with my purchase. The game could use a few tweaks but if you looking for a game that is slightly less sim then Live or 2K, then this is it.

Nice review! If you don't mind me asking how the franchise mode is? I really liked the trailer and if it is good I may not need to get another sim game.

Does it have the Thunder? I thought the demo was fun and I'm considering picking it up along with 2K9 for The Life and trophies, but I need to make sure it has my new hometown team first. The team logos splash screen for the demo just had the generic OKC logo, so I just want to make sure.

I will look into the Thunder question and also the franchise questions tonight.

Re: Got it on PS3 and I love it but.....

I picked it up and was able to play around with it a little over an "extended lunch." Gotta love those "doctor appointments!"

Anyway, I agree almost completely with Dan. It isn't the most sim game in the world, and it won't appeal to a lot of the hardcore guys on here, but it IS a lot of fun for those looking for a fast-paced game. I think it is going to be a really fun two-player game as well.

I didn't have time to notice whether or not the Thunder were in - I just noticed Oklahoma City, but don't know if it was a generic or not. I also didn't have time to play around with franchise, but I will tonight and will try my best to come back and answer your questions.

The game looks VERY nice, and it is silky smooth. From what I played I still saw a lot of the same dunks, etc. as the demo - I was hoping that would be calmed down somewhat, but it does go hand-in-hand with the run n gun style of play.

I'll have more impressions later on. I actually bought all three games (2K for 360, Live and 09 for PS3), and 09 is the first one I opened. It just seems like they put a lot of work into it. It isn't perfect but any means, but so far at least it is fun.
