Retiring

So i just got to my first off-season so i could start the new year with Knight's rosters.

Notable retiring players...

Matt Holliday (Injury)
Joe Nathan (Age)
Rivera (Age)
Jeter (Age)
Dexter Fowler (bad FA market)

Obviously this has been talked about before but it is a little disappointing to see this. I wish players would retire after the FA section of the offseason. If they couldn't get the contract they wanted...then retire. To have Dexter Fowler retire is pretty lame.

That is probably SCEA's Dexter Fowler(who looked white and was a B/C? potential).
I knocked his ratings down put him on the FA list...then......created a new A potential ...black Dexter Fowler for the Rox.

Oh okay...i'll take your word for it and it makes a lot more sense.

The rest of the off-season has been great. Salaries are 100000x better then 2k9. I just thought it was kind of a let down to have some big stars retire early.

Re: Retiring

if you don't like who retires, you could try reloading your save and see if the outcomes are any different. If I'm not mistaken the retirements are random.

It would be cool if we could talk someone out of retirement. I would have def tried to talk Mo out of retirement in my franchise.

Yeah that's a good point. Or even like i said...don't make it an official retirement until after the FA signing period. If they don't get the contract they want then they retire.

Talking them out of it is a great idea though. They already have "wants" as part of their signing process...so have the same thing with retiring...money, length of contract, age...the older they get the bigger age is a factor.

I also like the thought of adding incentives...if you pitch 150 innings you get more money...make the all-star game....make more money...etc.

Agreed. I'm hoping something like this is implemented next year.

This has been found by others, but if you want to change who retires in what year you MUST do this BEFORE the draft. It seems that who retires depends on how teams pick players in the draft (to make room for these players essentially). If you save after the draft you are pretty much stuck with what you have. . .it doesn't matter if someone had an amazing year, if someone is 35, etc. So, save, do the draft, save again (on another save slot) and sim to the offseason to see who retires. If you are satisfied, reload your last save. If you are not, reload your first save and try again.

I hope this helps.

Yeah I don't know what SCEA was doing when they made Fowler, he looks horrible. I did end up restoring all of his attributes based on your created Fowler and switched them after I created Cuban star Yuliesky Gourriel with the A potential Fowler. Thankfully I don't really play much with the Rockies, otherwise this would drive me crazy. The stock Fowler is a B potential btw, I figured that was about right.

But back to the point of this topic, I see a lot of unusual retirees too. Drives me crazy sometimes.
