A shameful admission

This is the best video sports game ever in my experience, I'd better say that right away, but I confess that quite a few times I have gotten so angry playing it that I have just turned off the ps3 during a game. Okay, no need to tell me, I know it's childish, but I just can't seem to help myself. I hadn't played for a while but the play-offs got me back into it recently. A couple of games passed uneventfully (two wins for me, one defeat) and then came that game against a weak rookie pitcher which I expected to win easily but could barely hit him out of the infield and then I got mauled with seemingly endless hits and three HRs in the sixth. The old familiar seeing red followed and off went the ps3, accompanied by vows never to play the damn game again (I'll probably be playing again tonight). Anyone else behave like this at times? I think it's the feeling of helplessness against an all-powerful opposition that causes it, though I do appreciate in my calmer moments that if the game depended solely on the skill of the human player then it would soon become boring as the human player improves and starts winning nearly every game (which is the way most video sports games go). The scripted feel at times is just the price one pays for realistic results. Must try to be more philosophical...

Never turned off a game or reset it due to losing. Sometimes things don't go the way I want them to...I just take my medicine and come out the next game ready to play.

No, but I find myself fast-forwarding to the next half inning when my pitcher starts losing control....

Re: A shameful admission

Yeah, I think that's one of the things that separates this game from all other sports games in existence. I feel that the developers took into account player skill, attributes of the baseball players (and how they sometimes "should" be playing), and somewhat of a balance of wins/losses. The way it feels is that if you are winning too much then it's almost as if the difficulty increases bit by bit until you lose, and how long that difficulty lasts seems to vary. I hope what I'm trying to convey makes sense (Not the comeback code).

Also, I am not complaining in the least. As was already said, this is part of what makes The Show great. Stacking the odds against you, at times, makes this video game such a great replica of the real MLB. Just my two cents.

Re: A shameful admission

I swear this game has a mind of its own, Struggling the first few weeks of the season, down at the bottom of the league with runs scored then just when I get to the toughest part of the schedule my team steps it up and I run off 7 in a row and my offense is like a well oiled machine. I am gonna enjoy this little win streak cause i'm sure it will come crashing down soon! This is the first baseball game I have played this late in the year. I want to at least finish my second season before The Show 10 hits the stores. This has got to be the best sports game of all time, I have been a gamer for 30+ years

Imagine if SCEA put out a football game as good as the Show

No way. I absolutely love the fact that I can both destroy a weak team, and have 'an off day'.

...or in the case of this past week, loose three starters to injury and loose back to back games to the cardinals at home by a combined 4-21 score. This after I took the first series against them 2 games to one.

Re: A shameful admission

there isny any comeback code or the computer doesnt decided if your going to have a bad game. the computer adapts to your playing and just like in real baseball anything can happen and it does. look at the rays last year. nobody was predicting that.

Re: A shameful admission

I am a late arrival to the Show, and after playing 30 Exhibition games and going 15-15, I decided to start my season.

I am 2-2 after a gem by Beckett on opening day and a 2-0 shutout with 9k's, then getting beaten like I stole something by the Rays in the second and third game of the series. Lester loses 10-1 and Dice-K loses 8-1. I open up a series in LA against the Angels, and Bucholz gets me back on track and back to .500 with an impressive outing and a 5-4 win after being down 4-0.

Never, and I mean Never, have I had a game where I cannot wait to get home from work and see what plays out on the field.

A word to the wise. If you think you are going to "squeeze in a game" between chores around the house, or try to play and entertain a toddler at the same time, you are sadly mistaken. My two wins so far were attributed to unbridled attention to pitches, location, and defensive placement during the game. My two losses were both played with the kids at home, and you need only a tiny distraction before the wheels fall off the train, and everything turns to crap.

Love the commentary with regards to calling back info for specific events. Papi was 0'fer in the Opening Homestand, and when he got up against the Angels in his frist at bat, Matty V commented on how maybe he was going to turn things around after an "Embarassing Effort" against the Rays...

So freaking cool...
