R. Howard for L. Berkman

Just got to year two of my franchise and the Astros traded L. Berkman for R. Howard in order to reduce payroll after a crappy year. I know this would never happen in real life but for some reason this made me appreciate the game even more.

I think because the team knew that they were in the red and needed to do something fast.

Whats Berkman making? It can't be too much less than Howard.

On the game Howard is making 7 million and Berkman like 18 mil. It made me appreciate the game more because the CPu was dealing with the same issues as me. LOL making the pirates good ain't easy but I traded all my big contracts in year 1 for some prospects so I entered free agency with like 50 mil in cap room. Picked up CoCo Crisp, Adrian Beltre, Cliff Lee and Rich Harden. In my own mind, i'm the new owner of the Pirates willing to put some money in the team and make a run for the title.

yeah, these trades may not happen in real life, but its a video game and my "fantasy world", so I too, appreciate the fact that the cpu faces the same issues as I do.

yea i dont get how the astros trading an older much more expensive, worse player, apparently coming off a crappy year for a stud like howard is a good thing

Re: R. Howard for L. Berkman

One thing I have learned in my many years of watching baseball is that in real life any trade is possible. I can't tell you how many times I have scratched my head (it is a wonder I am not bald), on certain trades. And many of those dumb trades actually turned out ok for one or both teams. I guess that is why I am not a major league GM. Whenever a trade happens that I find hard to believe on the game, I just create a back story in my head that makes sense. In this case, perhaps Howard and the manager are a little fed up with each other and can't seem to make it work. In the meantime, Houston sees an opportunity to replace Berkman with a younger 1st baseman, and cheaper at that, to continue building their future on. Stranger things in baseball have happened.
