One out, man on first = Automatic Double Play?

Sorry if this has already been posted but it's really starting to annoy me. I thought I had a handle on how to avoid this and I've tried everything.

I always take the pitcher deep and have the advantage in the at bat. Usually 3 and 1 or 2 and 1 or at least even at 1 and 1 or 2 and 2. It's not too often that I'll swing at a 1 and 1 unless it's high.

I try to go for the high pitches, I've mixed it up between contact swing and power swing.

Every freaking time I have one out and a guy on first it's an automatic double play ball, even the power swings on the high balls. It's absolutely amazing.

Anyone have any tips? Do I have to bunt, steal or do a hit and run every time I have a guy on first and one man out? Seems very unrealistic.

Sorry, I love the game but this is really getting to me and I needed to vent.

Hit and run more and I wouldn't use the power swing if your keep getting double plays. Go for contact and try to make good contact.

Hit and run when you feel its going to be a good pitch to hit like a 2-1 count or something like that.

Re: One out, man on first = Automatic Double Play?

I just mentioned this in another thread.

I do think the defense turns double plays a bit too well. For instance, SS's and 2B's can turn so quickly and make an accurate throw even when moving away from second base. Most should have to stop and plant. Also, all players seem really good at the glove flip or behind the back toss, and they do it so accurately that the DP partner can catch and throw super quickly.

As it is, I always swing influence "up" and try to lay off low pitches.

I'm just the opposite, I look for low pitches. With one out (or no outs) and a runner on first, the pitcher should be trying to work you low to induce you to hit into a double play. If you are looking for something up, and you hit a ball that's low, you are going to hit it on the ground everytime.

I move the PCI low and try to hit something hard. I've had a lot of luck hitting line drives and balls into the gap with this approach.

It's not just you. I see alot of instances where the game appears to be scripted. Watch foul balls. They almost always take the same pathes, depending on where they are hit.

Yeah bro the game is a joke when it comes to double plays. I guarntee you that anyone who has played almost all of their own games will lead the majors in gidp category. Its sad.

guys you have to emphasize the left stick movement bc they throw alot of low balls in those situation right before your swing get that left stick all the way down so you get the lift on the ball most of the time i get a hit hope it helps

Re: One out, man on first = Automatic Double Play?

Well I do use the right analog to influence a hit to go up but in a one out man on first situation it doesn't work, even on pitches up in the zone. To be honest it's not a 100 % thing, its more like it happens 75 or 80 percent of the time which is incredibly too high of a chance.

I should also note that I rarely swing at pitches low. Of the 18 double plays I've hit into probably only 5 or 6 were low. The rest were belt high or higher.

I think the AI just has too much of an advantage when this situation is available. It just feels like you are guaranteed to hit into a double play unless you take drastic measures to avoid it.

In 12 games I've into 18 double plays which is most in the league, the next closest team had 14 double plays in 12 games. I guess its only slightly higher than real life when you consider the Toronto Blue Jays have 33 in 27 games.

I guess I will just need to hit and run more often.

I dont see this at all. I may hit into one every couple games. I will say you have to do more than stand up there and swing away. If you have a fast guy on 1st, steal or hit and run sometimes....a lot of times I will bunt the guy over. Of course you will hit into a lot of DP's if you just hack away everytime. Thats why this game is so good.....it's very challenging.

played 162 games and didn't lead the majors. I didn't even lead the NL.
