replacing someoe on the DL (franchise)

i read a few of the other threads on roster movement, and i have a decent understanding of how mlb roster moves work
my question is, someone in my pen gets injured, i put him on the DL
i tried to go sign a FA but it said my roster was full, presumably b/c i still had 40/40 man roster full. So if i have someone on the DL, can i then call up someone from the minors (someone on my 40 man roster, but not on my 25) and then send him back down without him a) passing through waivers or b) using any of his options?

ie. would it be best to bring up a veteran or a rookie? id rather not a young guys options shuffling him back and forth to fill in my bullpen

thanks

Once you bring up a player from the minors to the majors, you use an option year if he has any. If he doesn't, if you send him back down, he'll have to clear waivers first. There is no exemption for replacing an injured player.
