Do you watch the dust?

Do you guys watch the dust from the catcher when you are batting to figure out what side of the plate the ball is going (left, right, or middle)? It's just where the pitcher is aiming and not an exact science.

I started doing this by accident and I just started crushing the ball. I think I've hit about .350, as a team, or so since. It almost feels like cheating, but I can't stop myself. It actually has enhanced my gameplay enjoyment. I've already played about 75 or 80 games in my season and considering my hectic schedule, that is a ton. I'm still 8 games under after going almost the entire month of May without a win. The lighting can cause you problems with seeing it sometimes.

Anyone else?

It actually does it every pitch. Well, if you don't see anything, it's going to be in the middle part of the plate, could be up or down.

No i dont.

It would completely take away from the game for me, cheap hitting.

I do. It doesn't happen every time and seems to be either tied into the hitter's vision or maybe tied into the skill of the catcher. It may not be any of that at all.

I just attribute it to a hitter sneaking a peak at where the catcher sits up.

It happens every single pitch. Every one unless the pitch is going to be over the middle of the plate. every pitch.

I was afraid it would kill my enjoyment, but I can actually not chase everything now. It makes it much more enjoyable for me. It just gives you an idea where the ball is suppose to go and that doesn't mean a whole lot. Good pitchers will still make you look foolish.

Re: Do you watch the dust?

I peek on occasion... to me, it is no different than trying to key off locations in real life. As CB said, its just the same as using your peripheral vision to see what the catcher is doing. I was under the impression that it didn't happen all the time, but maybe I am too busy looking at other things related to the previous pitch (speed, location, type, etc.) to notice.

I think it makes it realistic, especially playing with all the visual aids off. And it is not something that is an absolute give away.
