Great lighting! Player models are still HORRIBLE...

As I review the screenshots for MLB The Show 09 I'm inspired and discouraged at the same time. While I have a real appreciation for the time and energy it must have taken to implement the new lighting scheme, it falls flat once I see that the players are still stocky monsters in shoulder pads. Why not resolve this SCEA? After taking the time to provide accurate stadiums, new animations, progressive lighting and higher-res face mapping, why in the world would you stand pat with the actual player models themselves?!

I'm sure this is a brilliant game, and I for one can't wait to play it. Here's hoping 2010 can provide accurate players so the aesthetics actually ring true.

The devs have stated multiple times that new player models will likely be in MLB '10.

Apparently (go figure), it's not as easy as just pasting the jerseys on a new set of models.

I will never understand what is wrong with the player models. I guess until I see the new ones implemented can I understand this argument. because I honestly think everything looks damn near perfect. And if they really are a little off then you are greatly exaggerating that they are (HORRIBLE) slightly off maybe, but horrible? C'mon

Some people just don't understand you can only do so much in 1 year.

If it's been said once... It's been said a thousand times...

NOTHING is as easy in programming as you may think.

Kolbe has stated himself that there is indeed new player models being worked on, they just could not fit them in this year. Think about it... new models = need for all new (or reworked) animations which would take just as long as creating the player models themselves. This process is by no means a speedy one.

Just sit back, relax and enjoy yourself knowing that we have such a great and dedicated team at SCEA putting this together so that we're not stuck with that..... "other game"

Re: Great lighting! Player models are still HORRIBLE...

Again. I appreciate the time it takes. My point is, models were a sore spot a year ago and they prioritized mascots and progressive lighting? Many games over the years updated player models every year...(Madden comes to mind).

Not looking for "speedy" changes. 2010 will be 2 years after the issue was first addressed. It's just that the visuals seem to be so important to SCEA, so the models should be more accurate.

Anyone that doesn't see it needs to look again. The players are all fire hydrants with the occasional huge head.

First, I'm guessing the Mascots were a minor thing (while I'm sure it took plenty of time nonetheless) compared to redoing all models and likely animations to go with them.

In addition, I think that "progressive lighting" that you didn't seem to care about based on your response, is what will make the models and everything else look great in '09.
