I have no idea if one effects the other or not, just curious.
I'm far from an expert, but by the way it was explained to us a few weeks ago, they don't have to re-do all the animations for the new players models. They just have to adjust them so they work.

For example if they have a pitcher scratching his head, with the new player models we might see funky stuff like his hand going through his head because of the new model being a different size than the current ones.

The way Chris was talking, I don't think we'll see new player models until the next generation. A few people(including myself ) said it before he did...They would have to redo a 3+yrs of animation to fit the new models. You change player models, you change stances, you change stances, you change stadium sizes...Everything would have to become bigger and re-worked.

Work like that would have to take their whole dev cycle...And to me, it makes no sense. To me it's like starting over again.

So to answer your question, no, I don't think player models are holding them back at all. I'll believe that until Chris or Kolbe come in and say otherwise.

Well, I'll believe it when I see it. For the last few years, 2K promises the moon and gets everybody's hopes up and then when the game is released it under delivers big time (to put it nicely). I've been burned too many times to believe any of the hype 2K puts out anymore. I hope I'm wrong, because as a baseball gamer it would be great to have another quality game out there, but IMO they have a very long way to go to even begin to compare to what The Show has to offer. I realize that not everyone cares for The Show and some might actually prefer 2K's game, and that's great too because ultimately it's really all about loving the game of baseball. I really do hope that 2K puts out a good game this year mostly because I've owned an XBOX 360 since 2005 and I've yet to play a quality game of baseball on it.

Not the most animations overall, but a specific type that's never been fully attempted. Actual signature swings for the top batters in baseball. That would include the batters stride (leg kick, preparation waggle), swing & then follow through after a hit.... not just for HR celebrations.

Now that I think back, there was one game that did attempt this & that was Homerun King by Sega. When you'd go to the edit a player screen & view each signature stance, it would show the stance & their actual swing/follow through. It was pretty cool in that mode, but wasn't functional in-game. Whenever you'd see a replay of Griffey or Bonds after a hit, they'd have some generic swing.
EA at least succeeded in getting Ichiro's unique swing in MVP 2005. Which still remains the only successful try at this detail, which IMO would truly take a baseball game to the next level, visual wise.

The problem is...they deliver alot of fluff, but fail to deliver the meat and potatoes that is "baseball". Shiny graphics, Joe Morgan, and twelve trillion batting stances don't mean squat if it plays a horrible game of baseball.

Re: Sony might of jumped the gun on that guarantee

This thread has gotten pretty much out of control to an extent. Basically it was an attempt to try & lure in ChrisSCEA for some answers on what's been changed. Afterall, they did hire BSG to come in & redoe over 100 different batting stances. Sony's been very secretive about the whole thing so far, especially in regards to pitching motions.... & I'm curious. Not that I expect them to announce everything to us, but maybe we could get SOME insight at this point in development.

I wasn't chosen to attend the preview event, so I have to get my answers on OS. I'm sure Chris(lead animator) didn't want me making the trip knowing how critical I am of his profession. I'd probably try & have them redoe half the batting & pitching motions.... if they didn't look right to me.
This stuff is still changeable in the current build. Hell, maybe that's why RodCarew wasn't chosen to attend either. All the Community leaders that were chosen don't really give a damn about the animations. He & I are it.

Just for the record, I never siad that the baseball game with the most animations would be the best. 2K's overall product for this year, likely won't be able to touch the most complete authentic baseball experience that is "The Show".

Yeah, as soon as I opened that thread and saw the names of the guys going being announced I was upset not to see you or Carew on there. You guys are pretty much the only ones in the group that will really represent the batting stance/pitching motion crowd.

Chris_SCEA has been really quiet. Hopefully that's because he is too busy.

Bingo

They have to be converted, which I'm sure still takes alot of time. But I don't think they'd hold back on animations for 09 because of it.

Considering I am here at work at 10:39pm on a Friday night (and will be back early tomorrow morning), I would say that is pretty accurate....
