Retired numbers like Jackie's 42...

It's one thing to show honor to a great American like Jackie Robinson in the real world by retiring his number 42...

This beautiful game is the best baseball game ever but it will never be a real baseball game, so why retire any number.
I just wanted to create my own Jackie Robinson...

In my own way I have honored Jackie Robinson by creating a very good rendition of him... He looks like him, but I won't use him unless I can put number 42 on his jersey...

I just find it a bit disappointing that SCEA decided not to open all the numbers...

Good things are worth waiting for, so if The New Player Models make it in SCEA's MLB 10' The Show I'll be happy...
Meanwhile I hope that First names and Nicknames make the cut this year...

Scooter...

There is a work around so you can use retired players numbers, but I can't seem to find the thread with all the work aounds in it, if I find it I'll post it here if I find it.

It's number 5 on the first post

The workaround is as follows. Give your player the number you want (In this case 42) and save. It will save it as your number in the edit player screen, but give you the next available number for that team. Then go back into the player editor, go either 1 up or 1 down (ex. 41 or 43) then back to your number. DO NOT SAVE! Just exit without saving and you should be all set. I did it with the Cubs (My CAP wears 23, but Sandberg had it retired) and many others

A side note-Any time you make roster changes like trades, signings, (and I believe call ups/send downs..can't remember for sure) it "resets" and you have to do it again.

EDIT: Slow on the trigger I guess, someone posted the link above me anyway...lol

It works....for any number ...EXCEPT 42. It's actually not in the game at all..goes right from 41 to 43.

Thanks but I can't even start off with number 42 in the first place...All the game offers is 41 or 43, either I'm doing something wrong or number 42 isn't available...

Ahh...I see. I guess I've never tried it with 42. It's a shame they don't just give you some more detailed legends, then it's a non issue. Gotta go with Scooter on this...it's a game, give us the option. Maybe an option to toggle retired #'s on off in franchise...more options the better

Im with Scooter on this one, its just a video game, its a fantasy if I want to wear my cherished number 21 while playing on the Indians I should be able to.
also Its pretty pathetic in RTTS how they always change your number, they dont even offer you a chance to change it to what you want... kinda crappy. but its not a huge deal

Ugh...don't even get me started on RTTS. You can't customize ANYTHING about your player, other than where to put your training points. They need to open it up a bit, IMO.

I'm on the fence there... in my pitching RTTS, I've had my requested number (32) on every team and at every level I've wanted. In my 3B RTTS, however, I went for 13 and got 17, then when I advanced, I drifted as high as 20 although 13 was eventually available. I went from 17 to next-available 18 to next-available 20, even though 13 was available when I got #20.

Anyway, yeah, they should make it like NBA 2K8 where you don't get a legends' number in Association unless you go into it and edit. This happened with a #33 on my Bucks association.

They should have it where you can "buy a number" off a player, like in real life.
