Having Trouble Getting Extra Base Hits? Some Advice

One of the main things you can do...regardless of what level you play on, is to GO WITH THE PITCH.

As a right handed batter facing a right handed pitcher:

if you're thrown a slider that is for a strike or close to it, if you time it right and hit it in the midst of that break, you'll see opposite field hits, hits into the right-center gap....

if you're thrown a curve, try to 'catch' the ball as it gets into the downward portion of the break. Again extra basehits, opposite field hits are there. With that damn 12-6 curve, the only real way I can get it is wait that fraction late when the ball is in the midst of it's downward break.

Even with fastballs...including cutters...if you try to stay within yourself (we've heard that term before-lol) and go where it's pitched, you'll notice changes.

For those left handed batters who the CPU will field that exaggerated shift against (Howard, Delgado, Dunn, Fielder, etc.), if you're facing a right handed pitcher, WAIT as late as neccessary to hit the ball the OPPOSITE WAY. If you scan the CPU fielders before the pitch, you'll see that you basically have the whole left field and left side of the infield to work with. With Delgado, I love slapping the ball to left or ripping liners down into the left field corner. And as slow as Delgado is, it's a relief that he doesn't have to go into second sliding.

If you're facing a left handed pitcher with one of these guys, it's even easier...especially with the slurve and slider--since the movement of the pitch is to the outside of the plate. Time it right and pepper left field with hits, extra basehits and homers...

Excellent advice Rod. Hitting in this game requires a lot of thought and going with the pitch is A#1. While I think there's a tad too many singles, extra base hits are rewarding when they come and you have a plan.

@ favre4vr

thank you. There's a lot of folks on this board who go crazy over the inability to get extra basehits. We know that there are other facotrs that come into play...and some tweaking of a few sliders, but nonetheless, if you approach each pitch like they really do in the pros, the extra basehits will come.

In My Mets franchise, Beltran has 41 doubles. Delgado has 32 and Pena (Tampa Bay) has 31.

In how many games? Those are close to year end totals.

Yeah you are so right Rod, I play as the Braves and Chipper has 22 doubles in 91 games. I think it is not about just hacking away in the Show go with the pitches. That is why the game takes 1hr 30mins per game!

Exactly...but I gotta be honest, I've been having some games of late...9 inning games that are damn near two hours...lol

But I'm not complaining...
