Here's the perfect solution to fix hitting and allow it to be a challenge for anyone

The answer is simple

They need to make 2 separate hitting style options "TIMED" & "ZONE" and your should be able to use them both on any difficulty setting

That way people that find hitting to easy can use true '06 ZONE style hitting and still get challenging A.I. to match it and people that prefer to just use (x) can still also get a challenge on HOF

The one thing that has always bothered me about this series is that they incorporate the batting style into the difficulty setting

.... EASY A.I. is only Timing and H.O.F is only ZONE

...THATS NOT RIGHT !

The difficulty level should only effect the computers A.I. not the batting style that you prefer to use !!!!

AGAIN.....Difficulty should only effect the A.I. and not your play style

I for one can not adjust to true "ZONE" hitting but still deserve to be challenged by the COM A.I. when I just use (x)

ASB was great because you could use true "ZONE" hitting on Rookie if you wanted to or you could just press (x) to swing on the hardest difficulty because the A.I. was the only thing that changed so it adapted to all users and left nobody out

I have been asking Kolbe for the last 3 years to make "BATTING STYLE" it's own option just like "PITCHING STYLE" is

BOTTOM LINE...........

If they can allow you to choose "METER" or "CLASSIC" pitching style on any difficulty level then they can also separate the batting options and allow you to choose "ZONE" or "TIMED" on all difficulty levels....Then everyone's happy

Who agrees ?

While I agree with you....I think there needs to be more to it.
A way to fine tune it and I think it can be done with three "sliders". I put quotations around sliders because I think of it more like a tune file ala High Heat.
The first would be a slider that corresponds to the overall circumference of the bat(in the root of the game...NOT on the screen). All the way to the right and the game would perceive the bat to be the girth of a telephone pole....all the way to the left and it would be like a pencil(just in size not in it's ability to strike the ball with power)
THAT would be determined by the "density" slider. Again...all the way to the right and the density of the bat would be such that nearly every batted ball would be a line drive...all the way to the left and nearly all bloopers.
The third slider would correspond to how well the ball would be struck.
All the way to the right....almost always the "sweet spot"....or directly in the middle of the bat....all the way left and you'd be hard pressed to hit the sweet spot.
Put all three to the right and you'd probably never hit the ball.
All the way to the left and you'd be the homerun king every year.
Each player would find his or her best spot on the line.
Oh...and each players(in the game players...not you) own set of abilities and attributes would also factor into the above tuning.
Yes...all three are truly artificial helps/hinderences...but from what guys are saying...they really need to be hamstrung when it comes to baseball games as far as hitting goes.

We need to have control of the following to make zone more challenging:

1)Timing window adjustment

2)Bat coverage through the zone

3)Bat on ball quality adjustment (sweet spot)

I've been saying that since I first bought The Show back in 06. It's simply bizarre that they would program the game in that manner. Makes absolutely no sense.

The difference in difficulty between 06 and 08 is like night and day. Honestly, it's so easy to make contact in 08 that I'm no longer sure they even incorporated zone hitting on the higher levels. Feels like timed-only hitting now, even on HoF.

Ya I'm convinced that ZONE is broken too, I just hope when they fix it in '09 that they do it right and make preferred "batting style" a choice on all difficulty levels

MY FEAR........

They will fix ZONE to work correctly in '09 and once again still tie "batting style" into the difficulty setting WHICH IS STUPID !!!....So some people won't be able to play past VETERAN again because they can't hit a lick using ZONE so they will be subjected to dumb A.I. and punished just because they like to just hit (X) to swing

Kolbe and Co. at SCEA.... I have been asking for 3 years to please make the difficulty level only effect computer A.I. and not how the user prefers to bat

ASB did it and I know you guys can too

Yeah, they need to give people options to use what type of hitting system they want to on all levels. Your right, ASB did it and it worked just fine (even though most of their hitting systems were broken).

They need to bring back TRUE zone hitting. I dont know what you would call the system they have now, but I wouldn't call it zone hitting. I also think they need to be less forgiving on timing. You shouldn't be able to swing late on inside pitches and still crush it the other way. The sweet spot is way to big in this game. Like I said in another thread though, dont go back to 60% rocket shots back up the middle, and foul balls to the backstop like it was in 06. Just go back to the zone hitting system of 06.

I believe they need to make pitches nastier too.....lets be honest, a Mariano Rivera cutter is a joke in the show. 2-seamer's are a joke in the show (look at MVP Baseball to see how a good 2-seamer should be).

I hate to be pessimistic, but hitting has always been a problem in this game and I have my doubts that it will be better/fixed for 09.

Baseball games never seem to make cutters nasty enough.

If a batting system is just timing and plate coverage then subtle pitches are just fastballs with slightly less speed.

SCEA and the guys on the Show team have been really good at trolling the boards and checking out our gripes, our wishes and all of the other "stuff" we would like to see done to the game. I feel that they will tweak what was already a great game into something in the hallowed "MVP" territory.

Re: Here's the perfect solution to fix hitting and allow it to be a challenge for any

i personally have no problems with the hitting system as it is. i find it challenging and i use guess pitch. i still strike out anywhere from 6-10+times a game on average some games. im not murdering teams and getting a ton of hits every game nor have i since i went to hof default really. but i understand that some of you are just too good for the game and that you feel that the game should be designed with you all in mind to not bore you to death which i guess is ok lol.. but for the most part i wouldnt change a thing... im completely happy with it..
