Spring Training - What's the point ?

Just wondering what the point of Spring Training is or how people use it ?

Since you still only have a 25 man roster and you can only play the Big League Games I guess i just don't get the point.

I have actaully moved up all my borderline major league guys and am playing it with them. I am batting for each hitter once then simming through the at bats and just pitching to get a feel for what they have to offer. Will that effect my regualrs when I bring them back up to start the season ?

I play about half my spring training games when I first get the game...Gets me used to the controls and the game. Once i feel comfortable and the ST games get boring i sim to the regular season. I use ST as a way for me to shake the rust out of my system if I havent played in a while.

SO other than that I am guessing there really is no point to Spring Training or if you want to try other players out.

Doesn anyone know if sending regulars to AAA for Spring Training does anything to their morale ?

Nah...
Spring Training is like you say...just a test period.
As it is...it's kind of pointless...I just use it as a warmup for the regular season.
Hopefully they make both ST and the minors "mean" something more in future releases.

i use it to try and get some slider set testing in as seemingly with me at least sliders always seemm to play diff from inside and outside franchise mode when using them. i can play teh same opp in quick game as in franchise and get a totally dif feel from them then i do out of francihise... so i get a month worth of games tests on one set of sliders.

I use Spring Training for testing sliders, checking out the overall game play, getting used to hitting and trying to "place" hits with pitch speed maxed out and some general "experimentation". The only time I don't play every pitch of every game is during the spring, then I will sim no more than two or three games and just watch the cpu vs cpu.

There is no need for spring training games....it's hard enough just to finish the regular season....Sony should just focus on making improvements to the gameplay and presentation.....

Re: Spring Training - What's the point ?

I really think they need to go back and retake a look at Spring Training.

It should be a time where the player's stats are lower than where they left off for last year by a tad. And set up in a way where you would refine their attributes a bit on how they perform and possibly have a team wide point distribution system set up, where you can place points to make the player better going into the regular season.

Right now, all it is, is novelty. For baseball purists. But they really need to go back and think of ways to make them meaningful like I described.
