Re: LEGENDS rosters and O.S. rosters

Well my light hitting '73 Mets almost pulled one out of Atlanta....
McAndrew was pitching pretty good....getting out of jam after jam...with one out in the 7th and Buddy Harrelson getting a single...I decided to pinch hit Ken Boswell for McAndrew and have Ray Sadecki and Harry Parker try and get me to Buzz Capra for the eighth and then Tug McGraw for the ninth. Sounded good until we didn't score in the 7th...and then with 2 on and the scored already tied in the bottom of the seventh...Andres Galarraga absolutely CRUSHED a Harry Parker curveball to give the Braves the 4-1 lead that would eventually win it for the Bravos....
Gonna be tough to win the the '73 Mets...great starting pitching....excellent closer..but not much in between...and VERY light hitting and no speed.

Just reading that post brought back some names I haven't thought about for a long while. I can't wait for these rosters.

Could you please reconsider your decision not to put Tom Seaver on the 86 Red Sox. I think if he was there, the Sox would have won the Series. Then again, we will never know.

Thanks

Haha....I was only joking about that. Just a young Met fan who at the age of 11 was crying like a baby when they traded his favorite player.....venting at the blasphemy of seeing The Franchise play for any team except the Metropolitans. Seaver will be there.....he won't be as good as the Seaver that's already there on the '73 Mets though
....and yeah....they should have put him on the W.S. squad instead of Schiraldi or Stanley!......OR BUCKNER! Even Tom Terrific could have fielded that grounder!

Working on the '40 Tigers right now....one of my other favorites...Hank Greenberg. Great special on him on HBO or Showtime a few times in the last couple of months. If you get a chance to see it.....great stuff!

I can't wait to play with the 60 Pirates, just so I can play with Clemente. My favorite player ever

Knight, forgive me if you have answered this one already, but do you have a ballpark figure when these rosters are dropping? The anticipation is horrific.

Re: LEGENDS rosters and O.S. rosters

I don't have a time frame. I can get in one team a day and I already have the Mets, Yanks, Braves, Tigers and Phillies done.
When I get half done....I'll post 'em up.

Played a '40 Tigers vs. '32 Yanks game....
For those that don't know....Detroit pitcher Tommy Bridges was considered to have one of the best curveballs in baseball....He is nasty.....He could throw a curve that could buckle the legs of the best hitters in the game...and then blow a fastball by you. I can't wait to see how he is going to fare against the more modern teams

Thanks for having the old teams in the game. Many times we forget just how good they were back in the day.

No problem. The Old Time teams are just so much fun to play the game with.

Last nights game was the '73 Mets vs. the '80 Philllies. I started a franchise and simmed deep into the season....so it was a September game with the Phillies in 2nd and the Mets in 3rd separated by 2 games. I also used a spot starter to get the matchup I wanted which was of course.....Tom Seaver(14-8 218 K's) vs. Steve Carlton(16-6 212K's)

I jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Carlton's control seemed uncharacteristically shaky and it looked like the pitchers duel that Soup alluded to would be rather one-sided. Carlton had two walks in the first inning and it was a Cleon Jones double that brought in the two runs.
Seaver seemed to be in lock down mode as Philly after Philly batter seemed baffled by The Franchise' fastball/changeup combo. In the top of the fourth with 1 out Mike Schmidt singled to start the inning and a slumping Greg Luzinski stepped up to the plate. Batting .240 with just 9 homers(his real life stats for '80 were .228 with 19 homers) Seaver quickly got two strikes on the Bull. As usual with and 0-2 count I called to "pitch around" a good hitter(regardless of his stats...he is the Bull!) for a pitch or two...well the fastball got a little high and one of the construction workers who was eating his lunch beyond LF got himself a souvenir......and just like that the game was even.
The Mets jumped back ahead in the seventh on a homerun by none other than Felix Millan!....but in the top of the eighth with runners on 1st and 2nd with two outs Philly 2B Manny Trillo singled in Pete Rose to tie it back up.
I pulled Seaver in the bottom of the eigth for a pinch hitter(Ed Kranepool) but it went into extra innings as neither team could put forth another run.
In the top of the twelfth friggin' Michael Jack Scmidt smashed a homer to dead center off reliever Buzz Capra(who I left in to face him ) and the Phillies took a 1 run lead into the bottom half of the inning.
The Phillies version of Tug McGraw(BLECH) came in to close it out and would be facing 8-9-1(Wayne Garrett, Ken Boswell(PH double switch) Buddy Harrelson) in the lineup..
Garret popped out on the first pitch(should have pinch hit...but I only have Willie Mays and Ted Martinez left...and Garret has a little speed)....Boswell grounds out and Buddy Harrelson works the count full...fouling off pitch after pitch....he finally walks and we still have some life!! The pitcher is due up next(that PH double switch put him up #2 in the order) and it was a no-brainer. He may be old...and a mere shell of the player he once was, but I have WILLIE MAYS on the bench and in he comes! .
On a 1-1 pitch Mays hits one deep into right/centerfield .......both Garry Maddox and Bake McBride are on their horses. McBride has been described by some major leaguers as the fastest guy they've ever seen in the OF...and Maddox is known as "the Secretary of Defense". Both seem to get to the wall at the same time and make a stab at it....but it's Maddox that goes up......and over the wall to take away a game winning homer from one of my childhood heroes....
Mays kicks the dirt in dejection and the Phillies celebrating on the Shea turf was just a kick in the pants...but there is always tomorrow....
