Does Plasma have Game Lag?

Hey guys, I know theres like 8 pages worth of HDTV questions on this forum, and I've read through a bunch of them, but I didn't see exactly what I was wondering. And thought it would be easier to just start a new thread...

I'm looking into buying a Phillips 42" 720p Plasma tv, my first HDTV...Anybody have any input, experience, knowledge on Phillips tv's in general, plasma, and how they work with games?

Do plasma tv's have gaming lag like LCD?

For what it's worth , the "screen refresh rate" (prolly not the scaling thing I'm guessing, so maybe not a help) is 60hz, not sure if that helps anybody.

Here's a link to the TV if anybody wants to help.

Re: Does Plasma have Game Lag?

short answer: no lag at all.
I have a Panasonic Viera 50" HD plasma, it's excellent for gaming.
Plasma is good for: movies (especially with dark scenes or deep black levels), watching sports (no lag or image distortion) and the newest batch or 1080p's are excellent for gaming, contrary to popular belief.
LCD is good for the reasonable price, gaming or for pc output, and the good ones do a better job for viewing standard def channels. It also consumes less energy than a big plasma.
It comes down to budget and personal pref.

I prefer the richer tones and overall high quality of my plasma. Btw I have both the 360 (on component) and ps3 (hdmi) and my high def channels are through hdmi. I can say that I prefer HDMI by a long shot. I've got a friend who has a 46" LCD through component with a 360 (and HD channels) and it does a better job outputting to component but we both agree that my HDMI output is far superior. Just an extra little tidbit for you.

One thing to watch out on plasma tv's is the possibility of burning and ghosting images on the screen. Other than that its really a personal preference on how you like the tone of the TV.

As for lag, I havent had any issues

burning and ghosting images on Plasma is a thing of the past!!

I own a Pioneer 5070 50" Plasma and game a lot on it and have never ever seen any burn in or ghosting images.

I have had this TV for a little over a year

Plasma hands down the best!!

I also own a few LCD's so you can't call me a fan boy!

Agreed! This caution about plasma has been dead many plasma generations ago. I don't know why it's still alive.

LCD's ghost way more than any digital tv especially OLD plasmas.

I got myself one during the Black Friday sale at Circuit City. 50 inch, great HD picture but the SD is awful. It's only 720p but I'm extremely happy with it. The Show is gorgeous on it and the Metal Gear Online beta is native 720p so it too looks perfect on it.

I had a choice of an LCD at 42 inches and 1080p or this plasma at 50 and 720p, now that I've had a chance to live with it, I'm glad I made this choice.

From my experience 1080p is only extremely negligible at bigger screen sizes. In the store with a blu ray playing and HDMI on all the sets the only differences I saw in a few of the sets were the quality of the color reproduction which means more to me than a rez number. And that's what I based my opinion on, the actual picture quality.

It still is possible though, especially with a brand new tv thats never been on. Manufacturers added the screen shifting to make it harder to burn or ghost images.

Not a fanboy either, either TV you go with is a good choice- up to you which one you like

I agree panasonic or Pioneer are the only way to go for a great Plasma set!

Actually Mike, Hitachi makes some excellent Plasma sets as well. I'm an LCD guy, but I am always very impressed with the way the Hitachi's perform.
