Re: AI Follow-up Questions...ie The Boys are back in town....

Brian,
My question is about the timing window slider. How exactly does the timing window slider effect the CPU batters when adjusted? I've tried experimenting with it maxed out as well as on zero, but I don't notice much difference. I figured it would possibly reduce some of the opposite field hits & perhaps make the CPU strike out more often. I'm not exactly seeing that though.

Thanks for your time!

Re: AI Follow-up Questions...ie The Boys are back in town....

The "Plate Vision" slider ... that's the biggest mystery for me.

If I'm playing the games out, what is it influencing? I thought I'M the one who decides whether to take or not.

And, if I'm not playing the games out, I thought sliders did not affect simming.

So either way, the Slider seems meaningless.

This happens ALL the time in my RTTS. I'm a newbie in terms of the show, and I find it strange that you cannot turn auto saves "off" in such a polished game as this. Also, not being able to edit your created RTTS player after you have saved it, is kind of a let down also, but no big deal.

Re: AI Follow-up Questions...ie The Boys are back in town....

Thanks for taking our questions. You guys have done such a great job with this game but no thanks for ruining my social life for the past few weeks. I have a few questions.

1. Does lowering the pitch speed affect the power of batted balls?

2. What is the relationship between the HR attribute of individual players and the power slider? If I were to lower the HR attribute while increasing the power slider, will I see more shots into the gap or off the wall without inflating my HR totals? Or will these offset one another?

3. Is there any kind of contact and/or power boost for pitches right down the middle, or is it treated the same as any other "hot zone" for a hitter? The AI doesn't seem to hit pitches down the middle very well.

Re: AI Follow-up Questions...ie The Boys are back in town....

1. Do you envision any global attribute edits in future roster updates that might change how the game plays (and therefore might nullify or alter the effects of certain slider sets)?

2. What is your opinion of how fatigue is working in franchise? Guys who normally play almost every game sure do need a lot of time off.

3. For both the player and the CPU, there's still the occasional instance where the situation calls for a hurried throw but they get locked in to a "casual" throw animation, sometimes giving up a base hit in the process. Did this ever come up in testing?

4. Sometimes after the play is over, especially on extra base hits, I've got the natural inclination to try and advance the action by pressing 'x', mistakenly sending the runner merrily towards home and an inevitable tag-out. Did anyone foresee this, or am I just an idiot? I'm slowly training myself out of it...

Thanks for the great game. I'm scarily obsessed with it.

Re: AI Follow-up Questions...ie The Boys are back in town....

I dont know if you can answer this or not. This is concerning OF positioning.

Is there anyway that you can move the players about 5 steps up on the "normal" depth positioning?

Heres what ive noticed, The CPU and my guys on the normal def pos, cut hard hit gappers off reducing regular doubles to singles. So i decided to play my guys shallow always and just turned Human OF speed up 1-2 notches and have gotten good results. The only problem is i cant get the CPU to play shallow always, i tried switching controller 2 over and settin it, only workd for a batter. But the CPU now gets hard hit gappers are getting stand up doubles like they should. Same with balls hit down the line. But i feel shallow is a lil too shallow and need to be about 3 steps back or so.

But im seeing a good number of hit variety, also eliminating some singles that would normally land in front of you when on "normal". But def balls that should be caught in real life, so it works.

I think this would help with those that are saying the CPU OF is too fast. Its not that they are too fast, its just they are playing so deep on normal that they have good angles and are able to cut the ball off. I hope that makes sense

Re: AI Follow-up Questions...ie The Boys are back in town....

Chris & Brian
First of all, i would like to thank u for this increadibly game, worth every penny i paied to import it!

I would like to know 2 things actually, maybe u can awnser then, maybe not... and its ok if not.

1-About the sliders that appear in the ingame options but not in the main manu options(IF and OF Speed , etc..) Is it confirmed that all of them dont work? If so, is there anychance of we getting it working this year, or next year?

2-About the Timing window slider, i read the description and all...what i understood is that the more u have it, the more contact u make with the ball...but ingame i just dont feel this way, evan with if all the way to the left(-10) i can still make as much contact as i would with it at +10. So i ask u this, will this at 0 or at 20 make more hit balls for outs? i mean weakly balls put in play?
I just want something that makes me put the ball in play for out more often(less hits, but also not getting strike out), so that i dont have too many hits , and crazy batting avr. in my season. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated, as im sure there are more users with this issue.

Anyway, thanx to all the team up there at SCEA San diego for this masterpiece of game!
I really love it.

I have a question about guess pitch.....lets say I guess for a pitch outside.....do I still have to move the left analog stick in that direction or does the batter automatically swing in that direction?

That's an interesting take and unique adjustment to make. I notice that the alignments seem rather deep in the outfield as well. I also think that the players appear too large in relation to the size of a normal outfield (or the outfield is too small in proportion to the players and the amount of ground they cover based upon their virtual size).

Ultimately I'll have to disagree with your statement that the CPU OF is not too fast. Several of us have tested and tested and come up with roster adjustments to remedy this issue. We know that speed is an issue (as well as reaction time) because it was also something that had to be worked around last year.

Regardless if we or anyone else agrees that speed is the issue, I think the bottom line is that an active slider with a large effect on outfielder reaction time and speed needs to be adjusted/added.

Agreed.
