It wouldn't be so bad if a day off returned them to 100%, but it doesn't.
One thing that would solve the problem (at least somewhat) is having the option to turn batter fatigue OFF. Then those of us that don't want to worry about that, don't have to.

Re: AI Follow-up Questions...ie The Boys are back in town....

Anything you could tell us about fielding errors in general would be nice. I have played about 10 to 15 games and have only seen 2 errors. I have yet to see a throwing error or any errors by the outfielders.

I'm playing the PS2 version just to let you know (hope that doesnt matter). Thanks

Q: You commented on the steals and reducing CPU steal aggressiveness but my issue with that is User steals. I can steal 2nd with any player and do it repeatedly on AS and HOF
A: I'm not discounting what you're saying, but it's worth noting that statistically you'll have streaks of success. It's hard to tell what the chances really were in hindsight. For example if we ignore the surprise factor, getting 4 for 4 on steals with a good runner is comparable to hitting 0 for 4 with a normal batter. Take a look at several box scores and count the 0 for 4s or 0 for 5s even. Then notice the occasional 2 for 4s and 3 for 4s. In other words, success and failure can clump up. This is a topic in the math of randomness and simple formulas describe this clumping. It's observable by seeing how queues of lines at a small store vary up and down at a frequency not explainable by the time of day. Or how you can see two shooting stars in a minute then 10 minutes before the next.
A: As far as sustained success rates, I doubt most people get to this extreme but check out the season success rates for some of the better teams. Can you beat the Rangers' sustained ratio for example? A top stealer very much can steal well despite the defense's best efforts - the question is when stealing can net you a win. In some scenarios the win-value of steals are statistically weak enough that the defense is completely indifferent (100% success) and it's not scored as a steal.
A: In addition to your slider change, your high number of pickoffs may be an AI reaction to your previous steals. The slider isn't that drastic. I've seen that same type of scenario in real life several times, with 5+ pickoffs followed by the runner giving up and staying at normal leadoff. In real life it's normally the runner that gives up in that kind of battle not the pitcher, so an unothodox decision to keep leading off will continue this chase as long as you like. The pitcher's not going to pick over at your default "safe" leadoff.
That was an awesome answer and there is no way I can begin to argue that logic. So, thank you for taking the time.

You mentioned earlier that it isnt' a good idea to stray too far from default in terms of slider settings, which I have done. I just played a game on Default All-Star and had a great game. Although it was only one game, it did produce 2 walks, 13 hits for each team and I ended up losing 3-2. So maybe there is something to what you said there.

Thanks again.

Man....fixing batting stances on our suggestions is one thing, but if you guys can fix things like that for the patch, that's on a whole other level. The honesty and deluge of information about the game is so refreshing. Loved Chris's "What Patch?" response too.

Keep up the good work guys!

BTW, if you're looking for things to fix, I'd definitely second trauma's post about simmed stolen bases (attempts, actually) being way too high - some SB numbering in the 100's over the course of a season. We think it's something related to the baserunning aggression attribute, and our tests on this are mostly in this thread -

Simmed stolen bases numbers and baserunning attributes.

Heres what ive noticed, The CPU and my guys on the normal def pos, cut hard hit gappers off reducing regular doubles to singles. So i decided to play my guys shallow always and just turned Human OF speed up 1-2 notches and have gotten good results. The only problem is i cant get the CPU to play shallow always, i tried switching controller 2 over and settin it, only workd for a batter. But the CPU now gets hard hit gappers are getting stand up doubles like they should. Same with balls hit down the line. But i feel shallow is a lil too shallow and need to be about 3 steps back or so.

But im seeing a good number of hit variety, also eliminating some singles that would normally land in front of you when on "normal". But def balls that should be caught in real life, so it works.

I think this would help with those that are saying the CPU OF is too fast. Its not that they are too fast, its just they are playing so deep on normal that they have good angles and are able to cut the ball off. I hope that makes sense

Re: AI Follow-up Questions...ie The Boys are back in town....

The only real problem I have with the game is player energy. There is no reason why I should be resting these guys this often or this soon. I turned every players durability bar all the way up and can only make it about 13 games in before I get messages from the CPU saying I need to rest them. This has been a problem for, at least, 3 years. I am excited that Kolbe and Co. are working on a fix.

One thing that hasn't been brought up is that pitchers do not recover after 4 days off like they should. It typically takes, at least, 5 days for them to return to max energy. I can tell a difference on the field, or I feel like I can. Hitter will not hit as well after getting below 100% energy level either. I think that is causing the AI hitting to go AWOL on us. The same can be said about human hitting as well. I like the idea, but it's a bit overdone.

I look forward to the patch and thanks for everything guys.

Re: AI Follow-up Questions...ie The Boys are back in town....

I'm slightly dubious about the difficulty claims (i.e. HOF being for only 10% of players), as well as sample size. For example, when I started my Mets franchise, I vowed to go through my rotation twice before making adjustments. I went on to not lose at all during that stretch, never giving up more than 2 runs, often blanking the CPU, and often taking a no-hitter into the 5th or 6th inning. Now, in real life, the Mets' staff did have a remarkable first run through the rotation last year. But is ten games not enough of a sample size in this game to judge? And wouldn't I only get better as the timing of both the meter and batting became more familiar? Is there anything at work behind the scenes that should make me think that kind of success won't continue? That may be a trade secret, but two times through the rotation is about ten hours of my life, and when the CPU isn't at all intimidating at the plate, those hours get boring fast.

I don't claim any extraordinary skill... I've heard similar accounts from many people playing the game.
