Re: AI Follow-up Questions...ie The Boys are back in town....

I would like to thank you Brain for taking time to respond to my question on stolen bases.

Is anyone else with this game experiancing problems with stolen base numbers or am I the only one?

I would post actual stats but i dont want to sim to the end of the season.

When i did sim some seasons though i am almost 100% sure the numbers where WAY outa wack

Re: AI Follow-up Questions...ie The Boys are back in town....

These easy slider questions I do know about:

Q: With regards to the pitching fatigue slider, is it a fatigue slider or a stamina slider? (nemesis04)
A: Yes, it really means pitcher stamina. A high setting for the "pitcher fatigue" increases pitch count (i.e. decreases fatigue).

Q: Also, in game there is a third bar above the other two which increases or decreases based on what you do with the starter and relief pitching fatigue slider collectively. What info is that third bar supposed to be telling us? (nemesis04)
A: I think it tells you the average between your two slider settings.

You commented on the steals and reducing CPU steal aggressiveness but my issue with that is User steals. I can steal 2nd with any player and do it repeatedly on AS and HOF. I realize I can raise the slider for the CPU pickoff but when it gets set over default the CPU throws over to first way too much. IN fact, I had 15 on one at bat (with a faster runner on base). But with a more realistic pickoff setting, I could probably steal 2nd with Todd Jones LOL.

I appreciate you addressing my question about pitcher control. I turned off API and my pitches are a bit more erratic and I walk batters now. So I will just continue calling my own pitches.

Anyway, its quite obvious you're a very intelligent man and by reading your answers, you know the game very well. I am quite impressed and pleased that all of you guys from SCEA are even giving us the time of day.

I'm going to go play some ball now.

OH! Any chance that the baseball can be made to look like a baseball during gameplay (like it appears in replays) and not a bright white dot? Because if you look at the replays, you can see the ball spin (or lack thereof on a Knuckler), that would be SOOO choice in game.

Thanks for your time.

Well, what I perceive is 4 or 5 starters being down to about 20% energy by the first weekend in April. And given the fact that it takes more than one day for players to fully regenerate, how will these guys ever recover? They'll need a day off every 3 or 4 days. For players that play almost every game in a given year, the fatigue level drains too quickly for this to ever be acheived in the game. While it appears that some have magic discs and never see any of these problems, I can certainly snap a photograph on April 8th to prove that we're not completely nuts. I hope your bug discovery aleviates the issue for most of us.

A: I should have clarified something mentioned in last month's Q&A, but simulated numbers have no bearing on the interactive game mode. I don't know about simulated stats and was trying to answer about in-game steals. I'm just a user as far as simulated numbers are concerned, and the way I enjoy the game (RTTS, 2P, Exhibition, Season) I wouldn't know any better.

Well thank you for answering. It just becomes a problem for those who do like our season stats and franchise stats to be close to real you have to remember also if you have guys stealing 90 plus bases a year other numbers will get out of wack also like RBI's ect. Mabye someone can comment on what I think can be confirmed by anyone with enough time (5 minutes) to sim a season as a problem.

Please note i am not trying to attack anyone i just LOVE this game, and want to pass along anything i may have noticed to help you continue to make an outstanding product.

Thanks again,

Trauma

Jeeez...give him a break

my question was for anyone in general. The patch was mentioned in this thread so I thought that I would post the question in here instead of creating a separate thread.

And yes, I read what he wrote. Thats why I didn't start my post/question by saying "Hey Brian.... or Brian...."

I appreciate your concern, but I don't need you to police my posts. Thanks though.

Re: AI Follow-up Questions...ie The Boys are back in town....

Okay, this is a good new question so I'll cover it and that's it for today.

Q: You commented on the steals and reducing CPU steal aggressiveness but my issue with that is User steals. I can steal 2nd with any player and do it repeatedly on AS and HOF
A: I'm not discounting what you're saying, but it's worth noting that statistically you'll have streaks of success. It's hard to tell what the chances really were in hindsight. For example if we ignore the surprise factor, getting 4 for 4 on steals with a good runner is comparable to hitting 0 for 4 with a normal batter. Take a look at several box scores and count the 0 for 4s or 0 for 5s even. Then notice the occasional 2 for 4s and 3 for 4s. In other words, success and failure can clump up. This is a topic in the math of randomness and simple formulas describe this clumping. It's observable by seeing how queues of lines at a small store vary up and down at a frequency not explainable by the time of day. Or how you can see two shooting stars in a minute then 10 minutes before the next.
A: As far as sustained success rates, I doubt most people get to this extreme but check out the season success rates for some of the better teams. Can you beat the Rangers' sustained ratio for example? A top stealer very much can steal well despite the defense's best efforts - the question is when stealing can net you a win. In some scenarios the win-value of steals are statistically weak enough that the defense is completely indifferent (100% success) and it's not scored as a steal.
A: In addition to your slider change, your high number of pickoffs may be an AI reaction to your previous steals. The slider isn't that drastic. I've seen that same type of scenario in real life several times, with 5+ pickoffs followed by the runner giving up and staying at normal leadoff. In real life it's normally the runner that gives up in that kind of battle not the pitcher, so an unothodox decision to keep leading off will continue this chase as long as you like. The pitcher's not going to pick over at your default "safe" leadoff.

Re: AI Follow-up Questions...ie The Boys are back in town....

Is there anyway to turn on injuries but still have roster control on? Is this something that might be able to be fixed with a patch or should we just hope it will be in next years game? Keep in mind i love the game and just like things to be real.
