The sac fly scoring is incorrect. Amazingly, last year had it down correctly for the first time I'd ever seen in a baseball game, but this year, it's not right.

For example, with a runner on 2B and a fly ball hit deep to right center, the runner tags and coasts into 3B. Last year, the batter was correctly credited with a sac fly, and the at bat did not officially count against his average. This year, the only sac flies that are counted are when a run is scored. This is incorrect. It's too bad this error snuck by!!

Utterly fantastic game...this just a minor annoyance to me.
Official Baseball Rule 10.08:

Quote:
The official scorer shall:
(d) Score a sacrifice fly when, before two are out, the batter hits a ball in flight handled by an outfielder or an infielder running in the outfield in fair or foul territory that
(1) is caught, and a runner scores after the catch, or
(2) is dropped, and a runner scores, if in the scorer's judgment the runner could have scored after the catch had the fly been caught.
I think you are a bit confused as I never saw what you mention there in MLB 07.

One other annoying one that's happened once. My opponent hit into the RF corner and the camera went past my OF and right into the crowd and stayed there so I couldn't see him to try and pick up the ball. Instead of a double the guy got a 3 run inside the park homer. Almost annoying enough to break the controller.
yes, hasn't happened often for me but this is a major serious bug.

Then why are bunts that advance a runner from 1st to 2nd considered Sacrifice Bunts?

Here is the Complete Official Baseball Rule 10.08:

Quote:
10.08 Sacrifices
The official scorer shall:
(a) Score a sacrifice bunt when, before two are out, the batter advances one or more runners with a bunt and is put out at first base, or would have been put out except for a fielding error, unless, in the judgment of the official scorer, the batter was bunting exclusively for a base hit and not sacrificing his own chance of reaching first base for the purpose of advancing a runner or runners, in which case the official scorer shall charge the batter with a time at bat;
Rule 10.08(a) Comment: In determining whether the batter had been sacrificing his own chance of reaching first base for the purpose of advancing a runner, the official scorer shall give the batter the benefit of the doubt. The official scorer shall consider the totality of the circumstances of the at-bat, including the inning, the number of outs and the score.
(b) Score a sacrifice bunt when, before two are out, the fielders handle a bunted ball without error in an unsuccessful attempt to put out a preceding runner advancing one base, unless, an attempt to turn a bunt into a putout of a preceding runner fails, and in the judgment of the official scorer ordinary effort would not have put out the batter at first base, in which case the batter shall be credited with a one-base hit and not a sacrifice;
(c) Not score a sacrifice bunt when any runner is put out attempting to advance one base on a bunt, in which case the official scorer shall charge the batter with a time at bat; and
(d) Score a sacrifice fly when, before two are out, the batter hits a ball in flight handled by an outfielder or an infielder running in the outfield in fair or foul territory that
(1) is caught, and a runner scores after the catch, or
(2) is dropped, and a runner scores, if in the scorer's judgment the runner could have scored after the catch had the fly been caught.
Rule 10.08(d) Comment: The official scorer shall score a sacrifice fly in accordance with Rule 10.08(d)(2) even though another runner is forced out by reason of the batter becoming a runner.

Sacrifices are scored on the assumption that the hitter is giving themselves up to advance a runner. Bunts are obviously sacrifices while drag bunts are not always scored as such even if the result is the exact same as a normal bunt. When a runner is on 1st or 2nd, the safest way to advance the runner is to bunt and, if you were truly attempting to give yourself up, you would not be trying to hit a fly ball.

When a runner is on 3rd, the bunt is no longer the safest way to advance the runner; hitting the ball in the air to any moderately deep part of the field is. That's why that is the only situation where a fly ball is a sacrifice.

Why are squeeze bunts sacrifices when they're not the safest way to advance a runner? I don't know...because they're exciting.

Double switch error. The guy that pinch hit for the pitcher ended up hitting a double.. and the pitcher was credited with the double.

In my franchise, this happens every single time. I'm 9 games in and my stats are really screwed up from crap like this. I also love how the relief pitchers will come in when there's already an out, no runners on base, and the starting pitcher will still get the stats for the rest of the inning. I've seen this 5 or 6 times already. Pete Moylan actually pitched in 4 games, at least 3 innings, before he was credited with an inning pitched. The weird thing about it is that he was credited with the homerun he gave up, but still was showing no innings pitched or strikeouts even though he recorded them.

I was infact mobbed at first base after a walk-off last night. Kelly Shoppach won the game and started celebrating at first base. I did not know the rule about touching home plate until I read this forum today. I still have to check the final score whenI get home, but if they scored it correctly, than that would be fine with me. The more realism the better.

Re: **MLB 08: The Show (All versions) Bugs/Glitches Thread**

How many real life walk-off homeruns have been counted as only a single because they were mobbed at 1st? Because it happens EVERY TIME in MLB 08. In real life, it's happened maybe TWICE in the past 20+ years. How is that realistic?
