Pet peeve (Signature styles) LONG POST

Well, like many around here, I recently purchased a PS3 for MLB 08. I bought MLB 07 used with my purchase to get a feel for the game before 08 hits the shelves. I played MLB 2K7 exclusively last year on the 360. The game had it's issues but I had a good time with it none-the-less. Now after playing MLB 07 for a few days, I'm so glad I made the switch over. The gameplay is great and the atmosphere is second to none. I love the game.

There is one area that 2K7 blows The Show out of the water though, it's the accuracy of signature styles. Some of the so called signature styles in MLB 07 are so off it almost almost laughable. 2K7 didn't have a ton of signature styles last year but the ones they had were spot on. When I was facing Johan, CC, Haren, Halladay, Dice K, Okajima, KRod, and others it truely felt like I was watching them on video from the real MLB 07 season. Signature styles and gameplay are my #1 priority when I'm playing a baseball videogames. Just like some guys like fan interaction, working scoreboards, HR cam, foul balls, franchise options, etc. I love signature styles. It adds to realism to face Halladay, when he not only looks like the guy but has the exact windup as the pitcher. What fun is it to face Halladay when his windup is completely off? Sure the back off his shirt says Halladay and his face looks like Roy but his windup is off.

I've been playing exhibition games with MLB 07 the last 3 days and it's so much more enjoyable facing Tim Hudson, Joel Zumaya, Paul Byrd, Justin Verlander, and Kelvim Escobar when their windups are pretty spot on. Then I faced Roy Halladay, Johan Santana, Kevin Millwood, John Smoltz, Roy Oswalt and many others that have so called signature styles and their windups are not even close to their real life counterparts. One of the things that excited me about The Show is that they touted so many signature styles than 2K7. My main complaint is it's it not truely a signature replica style then don't advertise it as such. I'm a pitching fanatic so I concentrate more on them than I do hitters but I've also noticed a bunch of hitter were off as well.

So I have a couple of questions for Chris. Did you guys just add new sig styles to 08 or did you redo a bunch of old 07's as well? How do you guys capture these so called signature styles? How are some more accurate than others? It does look like you fixed Wang's and Beckett's from last year. Is that a telling sign that others were fixed as well? Jeff Francis looks spot on as well from what I can tell from the demo. How did you get Tim Hudson down pat in 07 but Smoltz is completely off?

I'm not trying to be a downer here, I'm just curious and eager to have them as close as possible. Like I said it's my pet peeve. Some guys care about working scoreboards where I could care less. I know someone (Rod_Carew) is going to say just use some other players signature style that's close. Ok but that's not a true signature style to the represented player then is it? If it's said that there are over 400 signature anims then I just would like to see them as accurate as possible.

If you guys polished up these sig styles the game would be close to perfect. Hell it's almost there already. You guys have true made an amazing game that I'm dying to play. Thank you and I'm hoping Chris, Kolbe, or someone else can shed some light on the subject.

From Kolbe post #113
http://forums.operationsports.com/vB...ll_Ian&page=12

From Chris Clements:
New personal pitcher anims:
Bedard_Erik, Blanton_Joe, Bonser_Boof, Cain_Matt, Capuano_Chris, Chacin_Gustavo, Chamberlain_Joba, Cordero_Chad, Corpas_Manuel, Dempster_Ryan, Duke_Zach, Gallardo_Yovani, Garland_Jon, Guthrie_Jeremy, Harang_Aaron, Haren_Dan, Hernandez_Felix, Hill_Rich, Hughes_Phil, Kazmir_Scott, Lincecum_Tim, Miller_Andrew, Rodney_Fernando, Snell_Ian, Soria_Joakim, Valverde_Jose

New personal batter anims:
Betancourt_Yuniesky, Buck_Travis, Cabrera_Melky, DiMaggio_Joe, Fielder_Prince, Gordon_Alex, Hamilton_Josh, Hart_Corey, Jackson_Reggie, Kotchman_Casey, Kouzmanoff_Kevin, Loney_James, Markakis_Nick, Pedroia_Dustin, Pence_Hunter, Pie_Felix, Saltalamacchia_Jarrod, Sandberg_Ryne, Smith_Ozzie, Upton_BJ Victorino_Shane, Willits_Reggie, Youkilis_Kevin, Young_Chris , Young_Delmon, Yount_Robin

Mind you, this is only the list of completely new anims. There are many more that have been tweaked and updated.

Thanks for posting the ones that are new. Nice job. So is it safe to say a lot of the above mentioned pitcher anims that I mentioned have a good chance to be updated? If so thanks very, very much. I guess we'll see when the game comes out.

Any chance that when you guys have roster updated throughout the year that some of the anims will be updated as well? Is that even possible?

Yes sir...and it's especially good in this forum...where it often leads to getting it done.

Re: Pet peeve (Signature styles) LONG POST

I agree with everything in your original post.

The Show 07 was an awesome game, while 2K7 was decent (at best). But one area where 2K7 blew The Show completely out of the water were the signature styles. 2K7 didn't have as many, but the ones they did have were all pretty much perfect. And I would venture to say that most of the signature pitching styles in The Show are inaccurate. There just seems to be something wrong with a lot of them. It's hard to put a finger on it, but it sometimes seems the guy doing the motions seems to drift through the balance point on every delivery, and pitchers with good mechanics just don't drift like that.

With the game almost perfect in a lot of area's, I hope re-doing all the signature motions and stances is something that is on the menu for The Show 09 and 10. It's kind of lame having this great awesome next-gen masterpiece with mo-caps from 2004.

Honestly, this is pretty much my only gripe with the series.

I guess I'm more concerned about bugs and realistic *gameplay* than I am whether every single player looks and acts like their real life counterpart. Issues like this are nitpicking, IMO.

I thought Halladay's windup looked pretty good.

i'm an arcade gamer, and ur concerns about "realistic gameplay" are nitpicking, IMO.

u don't have to agree with others' views....
but u should respect them and not downplay them.

Bronk bonin has legitimate issues, he presented his concerns in a well thought out non-offensive manner....so what's wrong?

I too am most concerned about gameplay and absence of bugs...but why can't I have signature styles too? we pay 60 dollars for this game....it isn't free. Some are shelling out 500 plus just to play this game. people deserve the best. ( so far it has been the best)....but that doesn't mean the best can't get better.

I'd love to see most of the phillies stars have sig styles to them....it would be awesome and will add much much more to immersion...which is a HUGE thing imo in baseball games.

Without people like bonin, games would stay stagnant.
