Hey Chris, I thought I'd bump up this thread you've been meaning to respond to.

Can we expect to see a complete next-gen overhaul of all things signature for 09? Focusing on extreme accuracy of every little movement the players make in their batting stances, rituals, pitching deliveries & celebrations? Maybe even some personalized swings that mirror certain batters hitting styles & actually influence the types of hits they get?

I hope you're motivated & ready to take The Show 09 to that next level.

Thumbs down @ Rob_NYY

Exactly....the 'after follow-through' is what's most disturbing...which tells you that they (SCEA) must not REALLY have a pro doing many of these affected mo-cap deliveries...too many pitchers at the end of their follow throughs wind up bent over in front of the mound.....and it just ain't so in the game for real.....

Yeah, I would hope to see better pitching deliveries. Some of the pitch releases just look awkward. Take Josh Beckett, Duaner Sanchez, and C.C Sabathia for example. At release point, the way the pitchers let go of the ball just looks like it plainly hurts The windup looks good, but it looks unnatural the way they let go of the ball. Hopefully the team will take a look into that for 09

They definitely need to capture more unique & diverse pitcher follow-through's. Seems like the personalization only goes as far as the wind up for most pitchers. Then they just have 5 or 6 generic follow through's that are nothing special.
Like I said, hopefully Chris & the guys will step it up & really make each player (batters & pitchers) look & move more authentic.

Yeah, looking through some of the Pitching Styles, you might find a few that appear to be flawless. Then you see the follow through. The player leaps off the mound and hops into fielding position like a jack rabbit, and it just looks so unnatural and totally off from what the pitcher really does after he releases the ball.

Re: Pet peeve (Signature styles) LONG POST

I just went through all the Pitching Styles, and here are the ones that are the most inaccurate:

Brandon Backe (follow through)
Josh Beckett (follow through)
Kris Benson
Jeremy Bonderman (follow through)
Boof Bonser (follow through)
Mark Buerhle
Kiko Calero (follow through)
Chris Carpenter
Gustavo Chacin (follow through)
Joba Chamberlain (follow through from stretch)
Jose Contreras
Chad Cordero (follow through)
Manuel Corpas (follow through)
Doug Davis (follow through)
Adam Eaton
Eric Gagne
Mike Gonzalez (follow through)
Roy Halladay (follow through)
Mike Hampton
Dan Haren (follow through)
LaTroy Hawkins
Trevor Hoffman
Randy Johnson
Scott Kazmir (follow through)
Brian Lawrence
Fransisco Liriano (follow through)
Estaban Loaiza (follow through)
Mike Maroth
Pedro Martinez
Wade Miller
Mike Mussina
Ricky Nolasco (follow through)
Scott Olsen
Roy Oswalt (follow through)
Jonathan Papelbon
Carl Pavano
Andy Pettitte
Chad Qualls (follow through)
CC Sabathia (worst Pitching Style in the game)
Duaner Sanchez
Johan Santana
Curt Schilling
Ben Sheets (follow through)
John Smoltz (follow through from stretch)
Ian Snell (follow through)
Joakim Soria (follow through)
Jeff Suppan
Javier Vazquez
Chien-Ming Wang (stretch)
Dan Wheeler (follow through)
Dontrelle Willis (follow through)
Randy Wolf

And those are the ones that just stood out to me. Some of them are good, it's just the follow through that makes them inaccurate. It seems like the same person did a lot of these and for some reason he did the same "hop unrealistically into fielding position after the pitch" motion exactly the same for so many guys who just don't ever do that.

Then you have some pitching motions like Andy Pettitte, CC Sabathia, and Johan Santana who just look atrocious and not even CLOSE to their real-life motions. Then you have Randy Johnson's and Mike Mussina's inaccurate motions that's been in the game since MLB 2006.

Then for the batting stances, you would think they would be easier to capture than pitching motions. I mean, you watch a video of a guy at the plate, and you imitate it for 5 or 6 seconds. I'm sure it's not EASY, and the guys who do this do have talent, but it's gotta be easier than pitching motions. There are a lot of batting stances in the game that are wrong as well, and I hope they are also updated for 09.

The game is just so great now, it kind of sucks seeing so many pitching motions and batting stances that are not up to par with the rest of the game.

And I really hope Chris or anybody else who does mo-cap or works with animation doesn't get offended reading all the criticisms in this thread and others, because some of the batting stances and pitching motions are perfect. The fielding and throwing animations are top notch. The cutscenes are remarkable, so there is good work being done as far as animation and mo-cap.

Re: Pet peeve (Signature styles) LONG POST

add Pedro Martinez to the "Randy Johnson's and Mike Mussina's" Category...
His Delivery looks way too ps2...
Hes leg movment after he throws the ball is innacurate when he is throwing from the windup, yeh he does sometimes do that little motion...but most of the time he swings his leg and dont just stop them after the ball is thrown.
they got it pretty good his movement from the streach and they should have the same leg movment when no runners are on base too.

Yeah, Pedro's stretch is pretty good. But his windup is pretty awful.

if the windup had the same leg movment of the streach i would be happy with it.
