Getting very frustrated with this game!

I am to the point where I am ready to throw this game away. I have played 30 games with Carew's Sliders, Psycho's Perfect Sliders and Default. I am killing the ball with all three slider sets. Carew's (.391), Psycho's (.341) and Default (.330). I wish there was a set out there that would limit me to hitting under .300. I guess my last resort is going to be Pared's and Nememis' sliders. This is 30 games with each slider set.

I guess I should add that I played Carew's on HOF, Psycho's on All-Star and Default on All-Star. If anyone has suggestions, please let me know.

Alot of people have claimed editing contact on individual players is the last resort. I have done so but haven't played enough games to say it works. Of the ten games I've played with lower ratings, I've have not seen results.

I'm afraid the combination of too much timing and pitcher confidence has led to the hit fest this year.

Consider me crazy, but I'm seriously thinking of starting up 2007. Nemesis sliders were perfect. I was getting about 7-8 hit games and walks were definitely more realistic in 2007. I wasn't getting the silly 3 infield hits off the gloves either along with so many past balls that lead to runs.

2008 is such as beautiful game its hard to put down but the other day, I was contemplating downloading Baseball Mogul instead of playing MLB 2008. That's deperation!

I most likely will play 2007 and stick with it. I'm getting too old for this stuff anyway.

Seems like it could take quite some time to do that. Plus you will need a formula. Im right there with you.

Re: Getting very frustrated with this game!

I feel your pain. I was having the same problem. I now play on HOF and based my sliders off of Nemesis'. I play as the Cubs and started out hitting .330 on default with minor tweaking. Since then I upped the pitch speed and lowered the hit quality and timing window as well as most of my players contact ratings. I was worried it would really mess everything up but it has worked perfectly. Since then I am averaging 8-10 hits a game, which is right in line with the real Cubs (until the playoffs of course). I have had a wide variety of games some 4-5 hit, 2-3 run games and some 10-15 hit, 5-8 run games and everyhing in between. Against good pitchers I will struggle and against bad pitchers I will hit better. But not always.

I also upped the CPU reaction time so I don't see as many infield hits off the gloves.

Hope this helps. I would try messing around with the sliders a little bit before just giving up on the game. Just my 2 cents. Hope it helps.

I play on Hall Of Fame Default sliders and am playing as the Yanks. Im in the 1st week of sept and am batting a team average of .290 and am 13th in the league in HR's. IMO, Hall of Fame Default is the way to go with default rosters.

Re: Getting very frustrated with this game!

If you do decide to go the editing route, I would suggest lowering contact by about 10-15% for each player. That alone won't do the trick so there are a couple of other things I do to make hitting more challenging.

1) turn the CPU's pitch control slider to max. The Ai will work the corners a lot more (and still miss the zone with regularity) but it will be much more difficult to make solid contact if you don't use the L stick correctly.

2) power swing until you get to 2 strikes. I see most people on the site prefer to overpower the contact swing by jacking up the power slider. I know it sucks to lose the check swing feature but the power swing is a must for decreasing the sweet spot of your bat. It will force you to be much more disciplined at the plate and make hitting more challenging, which is what we all want.

I agree with this 100% I had been playing on All-Star default but just bumped it up to Hall of Fame over the last week or so and it plays like a dream with the default roster. The only change I made was turning OFF Pitcher Confidence.

Problem is, I like using Knight's end of season roster set. I like being able to play with real minors.

What kind of stats do you have? I have played 25 games with Psycho's and am hitting .350 and leading the league in doubles and middle of the pack in Hr's with Seattle. I guess I will give HOF default a try, it seems I have tried everything on this stinking (but beautiful) game.
