Need some "K" slider help

I'm playing HOF with not much slider tweaking at all and the problem is that I'm not getting hardly any strikeouts per game. I have no problem getting ahead of batters in the count but then I'll throw something inside or out and it seems like they come up with some ugly swing and always make contact on the 2-strike pitches. I couldn't tell you the batters I've had down 0-2 that end up making contact with horrible pitches I'm basically wasting at them. Even though I'm recording outs on these swings most of the time, it's frustrating to not be getting any strikeouts. Any suggestions for slider adjustments to help me out? I really don't want to do a whole lot of slider changes because other than this issue, I like how my games are going. I'm not looking to get 20 K's per game, but I would like to get something reasonable like 5 or 6 with an occasional double digit game thrown in there every now and then. Thanks!!!

I'm at work now and can't look at my game at the moment but what exactly does that do and how much did you lower it? Thanks.

I tried this last night and this helped alleviate the problem you describe, a problem of which I was also suffering from. Basically I moved mine like 3 notches to the left which makes the computer more "human-like", in my opinion anyways, in not knowing that what you are throwing is going to be a ball or a strike. So if you throw it just slightly outside of the strike zone then you might get a strikeout whereas before they'd just stand there and not swing. I got 10 strikeouts last night using the Indians vs. the White Sox (cpu) that way.

That's about what I have mine at. I think I ended up moving it 2 or 3 notches to the left and it's helped my K's. I had pitched 2 games with Smoltz in my franchise prior to adjusting the slider and had 5 K's combined for both games, 3 of which came from pitchers I believe. After adjusting the slider, I had a game where he had 9 K's and one where he had 7. Much better results!!

YEAH the cpu has way too good of an eye on default, it's unrealistic.

Re: Need some "K" slider help

Hmmm... Does the CPU Timing Window really affect whether the CPU swings at balls just out of the zone? I always thought that slider had an affect on the actual timing window that the CPU had (ie: lower it and the CPU's ability to get good hits would diminish because they'd have to hit the ball perfectly).

I had a similar low K problem, but I lowered the CPU Batter Plate Discipline 4-5 clicks. This worked for me. Now I see the CPU chase pitches out of the strike zone and even take some pitches in the strike zone for strike 3 (assuming I set the CPU up well).

I think it's kind of a combination. I find that the cpu will miss on some swings in the zone with the timing window lowered.

I suppose that would make sense if the window being smaller makes it harder to make contact.

I lowered plate discipline a few clicks and timing window a few as well.

Re: Need some "K" slider help

I always took the timing window slider to be more about how deep the pitch can get while still making contact with it. More specific, if this is high then they can still get a bat on the ball even when it should already be past them. I currently have this at 6 and it seems pretty good, I can gas it by them at times and other times they smash the fastball.

I too am having a problem getting strikeouts, Ive had 1 game with 6+ strikeouts in the 35 games Ive played and that was with Kuroda. I have the CPU Plate Discipline at 14 on All-Star, should I lower this then to get more strikeouts? Im also using the roster with theaub's edits and he lowered the pitchers k/9 rating by 10 clicks each so I was thinking of raising that at first but if I can fix it with a simple slider adjustment then I would rather do that for obvious reasons. Curious to see what others have tested so far, this and drawing walks are the two main parts of the game Im completely unsure of.

Question for you, what do you have your CPU Timing Window slider set at then? I have it at 6 (-4) but if your theory is correct and mine isnt then maybe I should raise this to allow them to get more hits and lower the CPU Plate Discipline, currently set at 14 (+4), to get more strikeouts. I cant strikeout the CPU with any type of consistency and am constantly finishing games with 2-4 strikeouts for each of my pitchers and its getting irritating.
