Keep Sliders Simple

i have been reading alot of these slider threads to see what different people are doing and results they get......I honestly think most people are over complicating things with all the adjustments they make.....i think its un needed....I also think everyones idea of what is right is different....we all have our own preferences and ability when playing, so tweaking every slider in the game is pointless unless its you tweaking them for yourself

I play on default All Star and feel like the game is very realistic and I play every game....

there were a few areas that were lacking
CPU runs scored
My ability to strike out the CPU
My ability to draw walks
My ability to hit for power

below is what i did to resolve this
My ability to strike out the CPU - I turned down CPU Batter Discipline -3......this causes the CPU to swing at a few that are out of the zone, and it also seems to make them take a few more in the zone......It seemed like the CPU was just hacking at everything.....this adjustment allows me to avg about 8 K per game and about 1.75 BB per game....yes i think the walks are still low, but nothings ever perfect and this is a trade off.

My ability to draw walks - the cpu pitchers seem to pound the K zone alot.....i was seeing alot of 0-2, 1-2 counts.....i was not getting walks and the CPU starters were not reaching 100 pitch count......I see everyone playing with the Pitch Count slider.....i think this is a mistake for a few reasons.....it makes the starters throw alot more pitches and they are basically at 100 pitches by the 5th inning and you didnt issue anymore walks, the CPU just allowed you to foul off a few more pitches.....so people lower the foul ball freqency (this is what i mean by over complicate things)......
So here is what I did instead.... I lowered the CPU pitcher agression -3
This causes the CPU pitchers to throw more pitches and causes them to issues more walks....keep in mind you still have to lay off balls if u want your walks......it forces the player to play good if they want their walks, they gotta be patient......

My ability to hit for power - i hit for a decent avg.....but my problem was not quite enough doubles (or at least potential doubles) and HR....simple solution +3 power

CPU runs scored - this is the most annoying thing....when i feel like the CPU isnt a challenge and I will always win.....After reading Brians post about cpu hitting, I raised the CPU Hit Quality and Power +6 each.....now this created an un realistic advantage for the CPU......I didnt feel like the Hit Quality was off because the CPU was also hitting for good average.....but again, the power shots were lacking......so I went with +3 power.....since doing so i see alot more CPU runs and I dont feel like i will automatically win

thats all i did to make the game feel right for me....simple
the point is that to many people get caught up in making the right set of sliders instead of playing the game.....If you really feel all those adjustments are needed to give you a good game of baseball then there is nothing wrong with that.....but keep in mind what works for someone else may not work for you.....

Re: Keep Sliders Simple

Do you play with pitch guess on or off? Also for the CPU runs scored, dd you put quality back to 0 and then put power +3?

i have guess pitch and location both turned off....

yes i put CPU runs scored back to 0 and put the CPU power at +3......the reason i felt like the cpu had an unfair advantage was because in the first game i tried the +6 power and hit quality the CPU crushed me 15-1 with 22 hits......it may have been a premature decision to reduce things after 1 game, but the 3 following games i played with default hit quality and +3 power, i lost all 3 games and only 1 was close

but even though i lost, it felt good to know that the cpu was not an automatic win and they could score

Re: Keep Sliders Simple

Well, I just tried it and the CPU is hitting me, but I also won 9-6, 10-6 and am winning right now 10-4 against Detroit as the Royals. I'll give it more time. I may have to make it harder to hit.

Re: Keep Sliders Simple

try lowering your hit quality and plate vision (Brian at SCEA says these go together. I think he suggested -4 on both).....or, if u havnt already, raise the pitch speed a few notches

I second this. I hate editting ratings so that I don't have a team average of 400.

Re: Keep Sliders Simple

again the simple idea would be to lower your hit quality plate vision and power
i think the suggestion from brian was -4, -4 and -5....you may have to go a bit lower if your hitting that well......

Re: Keep Sliders Simple

with -4 power my x-base hits would be too rare...

Re: Keep Sliders Simple

brunnoce, if you want less hits in the game try this for fun, play using only the power swing button, you'll have to lower power down of course, maybe all the way i'm not real sure as i've only been trying this out for a bit here, vision and hq at default, the only drawback is there's no check swings , to offset the lack of check swings might have to go with -10 pitch speed, the little i've tried this so far hitting seems more difficult to me but i'm not that good to start with so you might be a better guinea pig, lol.
