I am thinking we would not want to have dupes of players in the set. In other words, if the 68 Tigers are in the set, we don't want Freehan and Horton on one of the expansion teams. I started making a list of players, and I just want to make sure Knight agrees with this approach.

What say you Mr Knight?

Thinking ahead!...
I like it. I was actually going to ask you guys to come up with two teams of players for me(one AL....one NL) like that.

Here is the structure that I prefer....

6 SP(one will be the Spot Starter/LR)
3 MR
1 SU
1 CL

2 C
2 1B(or 1 1B and at least one UT guy that can play 1B)
1 2B
1 SS
1 3B
2 IF(multiple position players....preferably 1 guy each that can play SS and 3B if necessary)
1 LF
1 CF
1 RF
1 OF(can play all three if necessary)

For the last spot....it's up to you...it's the "bonus" player of the team!.....

Have fun!

I will def get on that Knight...but do we avoid having dupe players already on other teams in the set? If so, we will need to finalize the teams for the set now so as to know who not to place on the 2 "mixed" teams...

I think that would be best.
I'll take your list and work on that later.
I'm almost done with the '84 Padres...so I'm about ready to go.

One idea to save a littel time would be to re-use some of the teams you already did for the orginal classics set. Even if you went back and changed them later, using teams you've already done, like the Orioles, Reds, and Giants would get you started quicker. That way you could concentrate on the teams that definitely need changing first.

Can you make a copy of your classics roster and change teams from there? That would also give you a full set of classic teams with each release, just with 1-2 teams reverting to an older team as you go.

I also like the idea of a couple of all-star teams using players from that era. Just don't make them too powerful.

Looking at Capa's list, I like most of the teams selections, but I think we need a few more 50s teams in there. That, plus leaving some older teams as-is. [Reply]

A VERY preliminary shot at the AL. Now, remember, these are players from the 1950's-1970's only that are not on any of the other teams that will be included in this roster set. I am assuming the 61 Yanks will not be included since they are part of the other set. Obviously, this can change as we go forward. Obvious players missing are most likely on other teams already in this set.

6 SP - W. Ford, E.Wynn, D. Chance, G. Perry, B. Feller, S. McDowell
3 MR - F. Viola, B. Lemon,
1 SU - B. Turley
1 CL - Undecided

2 C - E. Howard, J. Sundberg
2 1B - E. Murray, J. Gentile
1 2B - B. Richardson
1 SS - P. Rizzuto
1 3B - B. Bell
2 IF - J. Fregosi, R. Burleson
4 OF - F. Lynn, H. Bauer, L. Doby, T. Williams
Bonus Player - K. Singleton [Reply]

I think we need a few more 50s teams in here. My votes would go to the 1954 Indians and a 50s Yankees team (seeing as how they dominated that decade). [Reply]

I was thinking that it was going to be good players that fell a little short of the HOF. If there are too many HOF's on the team it seems like it would tilt it a little too much in their favor. I wouldn't mind seeing a couple though, as there are actual teams that had more than one. Any thoughts?

Could you copy the classics roster you already have and then change the teams going backwards in time? You could replace the most recent teams first.

I'd really like to see most of the 60s & 70s you already made in the 50s-70s roster set. If you worked your way backwards we could have a roster with teams like the '70 Orioles and '77 Reds mixed in with the '57 Braves and '67 Cards. [Reply]

I think the Expos and Brewers are slightly out of place because they are from the 1980s (not of the 1950-1970's range)... what about a couple of years prior for those teams? Both teams were even founded in that range, so you could do the expansion teams, though that may not be best. [Reply]
