Thinking of starting a new league.

So I have played enough online to know that there is absolutely no replacement for playing against a real life opponent. Having said that, there is nothing worse than playing against a real life opponent that exploits the game and cries and moans and acts like a baby. I get a few hours a day to play this wonderful game and would like to make sure that I make that time as enjoyable as possible.

For this reason, I would like to create a league made up of only mature, dedicated, intelligent, baseball fans. I do not have the time to manage conflicts and complaints and do not want to constantly have to be finding new owners for teams whose owners have quit.

Here is how I plan to do this:
1. I will only accept players from the Operation Sports forums.
2. All player must have another member of the OS forum vouch for them that they are:
a. a good, straight player
b. a player that does not quit in the middle of a game or in the middle of a season.
c. does not excessively complain about game issues. The big one here is when people quit because of lag. Look, lag happens! Even two people with great connections occasionally experience lag. It is something that we just have to deal with in online gaming. IF YOU THINK THAT YOU MIGHT QUIT IF YOU EXPERIENCE LAG IN LEAGUE GAMES, DO NOT SIGN UP!
3. I would really like to have several commissioners. While I said before that I wouldn't have time to deal with a lot of the stuff that commissioners tend to have to deal with, I realize that SOMEONE is going to quit, SOMEONE is going to have an issue with another player, etc. While I hope that these things don't happen often, I realize that it's silly to think they won't. This is why I would like each division to have a "commish" to help deal with things like this.

This is all in the beginning stages. If this seems like something you would be interested in, or if you would like to be one of the commissioners and help me get this thing going, respond in this thread. There will be a separate sign up thread once things get rolling a little bit. This thread is just to gauge interest and to see if people have some ideas to add to mine.

Im really interested, I was just looking thru all the leagues listed in the game and really wanted to join one but realized i would regret it after because its probably filled with cheesers.....I would like to know the rules and difficulty settings you plan on using and the Guess pitch on or off? meter pitching or classic? everyone has their own settings so id like to know if what you wanna do fits my game style

Re: Thinking of starting a new league.

Steez,
With it being so early, the game setup is not set in stone. However, I was thinking about leaving guess pitch on (although I could be talked out of this easily), setting the difficulty to HOF, using classic pitching, no fast play, and strike zones/hot zones off.

Like I said in an earlier post, though, I want to be just one of the people making decisions in this league. I will act as a facilitator to make sure that the game settings are what everyone in the league can agree on.

The league name is High Heat Baseball League. If you remember that baseball series then you are probably the kind of player that I want in that you are probably a little older and mature.

How bad is the lag issue? I've only played a few games online. I have a wireless connection. Does that make a difference?

Re: Thinking of starting a new league.

I'll put it this way. The best most lag free game is not as smooth as an offline game. The worst can be pretty rough. As I always say, if you play online, learn to accept lag. You will go crazy if you don't.
