ONLINE question: Connection related

Last night me and Odogg played both of our first online games against each other. The game was fun and had some CRAZY moments (I pulled out a triple play on Dogg , WITH THE BASES LOADED!!). But the things we noticed were this.

Batting animations are delayed compared to what is happening on the field. Another words, when the pitch is thrown the reaction time to swing seems correct it is that the animation is lagged behind and does not swing and make contact witht the ball smoothly. The ball just shoots out in mid air.

The fielding can be messed up with the slight delay it causes with not knowing where/when the ball will be hit.

Pitching the meter is slightly behind causing a hard time for "on the money" pitches.

Are all these things common with online play from the show???

We were both wondering this and just thought I should ask the people who most likly know best and have played much more games online than we have.

Later guys

Re: ONLINE question: Connection related

Delayed batting animations happen quite often when the connection is just OK. I don't really mind them because, like you said, the actual swing happens at the right time but the animation just lags behind.

I don't know about the fielding thing, I never really have a problem fielding due to not knowing when/where the ball was hit (except maybe once in a great while).

Again, I've never really experienced the pitching meter thing you mentioned. From my 100+ game experience, pitching is fine or pitching is "unpitchable" due to lag where the meter on the way back to set accuracy goes super fast. I've never had a instance where pitching was somewhere in between good or bad. There are times where it won't be smooth for a fraction of a second and that will mess up a pitch here or there.

It seems like you guys only had a decent connection. If the game was almost unplayable with runners on (like during your bases loaded situation), then you had a bad connection. I'd say one of the following happened:
- One of you guys had network activity in the background (peer-to-peer program - don't have anything downloading or uploading, a program updating automatically in the background, someone in the house using the Internet, etc.); having something like AIM running is fine
- Sony servers weren't that great at the moment
- If someone was on wireless, maybe they were too far from the access point and were not getting a strong signal
- You two just live geographically very far apart

Re: ONLINE question: Connection related

I have 12 meg down internet so my connection is great and above most peoples.

I ran a speakeasy speed test right before the game and maxed the needle out at 10megs+ (there meter maxs out at 10 megs). So I know I was running solid with nothing in the back ground.

I do think we might be a good distance apart though.

I was just wondering if this is common OR if there is games where battin animations and such as smooth like in single player.

But thanks for the info bro

You should be able to get smooth games most of the time. I have a 1.5mbps DSL connection and get smooth games about 80% of the time. The download speed isn't as important as the upload speed because 1) your upload speed is much lower than your download speed and 2) you can easily forget to stop a finished download from uploading.

The pitch meter is pretty tough to use online, in the league I'm we just use the classic pitch option because of it. Swing delay is normal too, you get used to it though. What always messes me up online are the double plays. For some reason, your players just don't react the same way they do offline and my player on 2nd seems to not throw the ball on to 1st on the backend of a double play. It frusterates me more than anything.

People say that NCAA online is great, That EA is right on. You think Mlb (scea ) would have it better because of such a great game NCAA 08 @ 09 same game but different speeds, in which the speed should been on last yrs game.Hop60 Want A GM PM me.

Playing you on line on my end, except for about a dozen pitches, was smooth as silk. I don't have anything special as far as a hook up, so not sure how it works.

Hop, didn't get in from my book signing until 1100 PST last night. Leaving for SD tomorrow at 0400 am (yawn) should be back in the early evening.

Maximum download and upload isn't near as important as ping. You're just sending button presses, not downloading Hi-Def video.

Find out where you guys are, and then do some speed tests at www.speedtest.net and see what the ping times are between you. It won't be exact, but it will give you an idea.
