OS Full Count (Online League) Info Thread

Operation Sport’s Full Count Online League

Format

16 Teams, 2 Leagues, 4 Divisions – to make it interesting 8 teams make the play-offs – the top 2 in each division. They will play off in the format;

League 1 Division 2 2nd Place @ League 1 Division 1 1st Place (3 games)
League 1 Division 1 2nd Place @ League 1 Division 2 1st Place (3 games)

Winners of the above meet in a 3-game series between each other.

League 2 Division 2 2nd Place @ League 1 Division 1 1st Place (3 games)
League 2 Division 1 2nd Place @ League 1 Division 2 1st Place (3 games)

Winners of the above meet in a 3-game series between each other.

World Series: Winner of League 1 play-offs vs. League 2 play-offs (3 games) Home field advantage is given to the team with the best record through the regular and post-season combined.

We have 8 teams from the NL and 8 teams from the AL – a good spread and range of teams. However, the league will follow a different format than the traditional MLB – I have randomly selected these leagues and divisions rather than confine NL teams together and AL team together.

League I
Division One
Yankees (bucs44)
Reds (brrmikey)
Rangers (riDIRKulous41)
Diamondbacks (gpe1975)

Division Two
Blue Jays (StackEm)
Giants (GSWOS)
White Sox (huggerorange73)
Braves (getinthevan87)

League II
Division One
Dodgers (carolo59
Indians (nemesis04)
Cubs (cowboype2000)
Rays (marino13882)

Division Two
Rockies (Nez477)
Tigers (starscream)
Marlins (miamimarlins1)
Red Sox (jim416)

Each team will play 2 games against those in their division and 1 game against every other team. This gives a total of 18 games played. With 1 game scripted for every 7 days this gives a playing time of 18 weeks. Play-off games will incur an additional 3 weeks playing time as 3 games for each play-off match-up will be played within a 1 week time scale.

It is your responsibility to arrange a playing time slot with your selected match-up of the week (schedules will be made available by myself or starscream).

Rules

The options that will be in place for this league are;
- All-Star difficulty
- Guess Pitch off
- Classic Pitching
- NEW Baserunning
- Strike Zone and Hot/Cold Zones off
- Fast play will be disabled.
- MAX. Base Steal Attempts = 3 (due to demand)
- NO Leadoffs
- No tagging up to second base on fly balls

Rotation system for starting pitchers. You must give each pitcher on your team 4 games rest before playing them again.

If the baserunning rule is broken, you will lose one scored run for every extra base steal ATTEMPT.

Persistent breaches of the rules will force us to remove you from the league.

Any absence for 1 week plus or an inability to play a game for a certain time, you MUST let me know before the week begins that you will not be taking part. You must arrange with the person you were scheduled to play to make up for this lost game during the next week.

You have one week from today to play Week One games.

"- No tagging up to second base on fly balls"

..just making sure i understand this. for example: man on first, 1 out. deep fly ball in foul territory caught on the warning track in left field. i cannot tag up and move the runner from 1st to 2nd? i'm not a cheeser, so maybe i'm just not aware of a potential exploit.

ya, why no tagging up.....if you can tag to 3rd, then why cant you tag to 2nd?

Also when is the actual league going to be created?

Personally, I feel there is an exploit with deep fly balls because in real life baseball you are not aware of whether the OF will catch the ball, thus leaving the runner halfway between 1st and 2nd. In the game, though, you are aware of this and can easily trot back to 1st and run to second when the ball is caught. Cheesers take advantage of this several times online and ruin games. What is everyone's view on this?

When at 2nd base and the ball is caught by an OF then you take a risk tagging up to 3rd.

When at 3rd, Sac Flies are perfectly fine.

Just to clarify, no tagging up to 2nd from first - everything else regarding tagging up is fine.

The league will not be managed through Sports Connect (MLB:08 online). We have the resources to run this solely through these forums and it gives us total flexibility towards running the league, whereas Sports Connect would simply limit our opportunities.
