New OS Online League Signup Page

EVERYBODY IN THIS LEAGUE NEEDS TO VISIT THIS PAGE;
OS Full Count (Online League) Info Thread

This league will be created on Tuesday/Wednesday 17th/18th June, with the view to play 1 game every 5 days. If people require more time, please voice your opinion on this and it can be increased to 7 days.

In order to play in this MLB08:TS league, you need a PS3, a copy of MLB08, a broadband connection and a PSN ID.

What I need from you on this signup page is your PSN ID, your desired team in the league and your backup team in the league (just in case).

The options that will be in place for this league are;
- All-Star difficulty
- Guess Pitch off
- Classic Pitching
- NEW Baserunning
- Strike Zone and Hot/Cold Zones off
- Fast play will be disabled.
- MAX. Base Steal Attempts = 5 (may be reduced)
- NO Leadoffs

A nice input from cowboype2000, this league will implement a rotation system for your pitchers - meaning that you must use a different pitcher through 5 games during the league. There will be 16 teams.

I very much appreciate any input into helping this league.

starscream will help to run this league alongside me and of course, you the player's will help out also

In the meantime, get cracking with some practice online to familiarize yourself with online play and sign up to the league by posting in this thread. Upon creation of the league, you will all be PM'ed with the password for the league and can sign up using that password. All news regarding league will be in a new thread when the time comes.

Thanks for your time.

Re: New OS Online League Signup Page

I'm interested.

Team would be the Nationals (God knows why), backup would be the Rays.

Question. Are there going to be any rules regarding the baserunning. It is SO easy to steal bases, a flaw in this game? I've played some guys on line and it's single/steal second/steal third/, double/steal third, single/steal second/steal third.....Just curious. Makes the game very frustrating.

Yes Jim, you're dead right - we need to implement something regarding baserunning. I've come across the exact same problems and am stuck playing with users on my buddy list (not many to be honest). We can only hope for honesty with players in the league, I can't think of a way of capping base-stealing at this moment, any ideas yourself?

Also what's your PSN ID?

I have cleverly chosen jim416.It just sort of came to me the other night.

Perhaps no lead off. Perhaps limit of two a game so that you choose them wisely?

Lol.

I would agree with no lead offs but it'd be tough to manage that.

I don't know if you can implement "baserunning rules". Telling people when they can and can't steal just seems wrong. I've been able to slow down many players' running games by pitching out, holding on to the ball, throwing to first, stepping off, etc. At first, everyone used run me out of the stadium but I'm now pretty good at getting some easy outs by throwing out/picking off runners. I'd have to say that fast pitching is not cheating BS like some feel because you need to fast pitch at times to change up your timing when you're pitching, it's a legitimate strategy because the stealing game is broken if you play the game the way you're supposed to.

I like to hit and run a lot and I always use R2 to steal. Plus, I never take a leadoff because I need to concentrate on the pitch and because if your runner gets a good jump, you've got the base stolen anyways. To me, there's nothing better than executing a successful hit and run. And, when someone does it to me, let's just say, I have the complete opposite feeling.

EDIT: Maybe one possible rules is that if you steal, you can't head back to 1st if you get a bad jump. Because that can be abused.

I think we need to get rid of lead-offs and also as you say to stop running back to first and tagging to second on fly balls. But as always, this is purely a trust issue. Hit and Run is fine because there is always the danger of hitting and running backfiring on you, ie. easy double plays.

Getting rid of leadoffs is completely fine by me because I never take any leadoffs.

If we allow quick pitch, league is not for me. The team batting needs a chance to hit PAUSE bring in a pinch hitter, go to the bullpen, pinch runner,etc., etc. It's okay to set your pitcher on the rubber, but you've got to give the batter a chance to pause the game. This can't be done with quick pitching.

If we don't have some type of rules on base stealing I'm out too, sorry. It's really frustrating to have a team get a slow runner on 1st base who would probably NEVER attempt a steal and have to concentrate on "stepping off", "throw to first", "pitch out' (for a sloth) etc. etc., just to shut down a "running game" that realistically wouldn't even be there in real life. This game is heavily skewed in favor of the baserunners (steals) and it just takes away from the realism for me to have to concentrate on EVERY runner that gets on base.

Rules can be implemented. The guys who agree to the league simply say they will follow them. If they don't we take their cars/homes/kids away from them. (Can we do that?)
