Now I remember why i have avoided online in the past!

Email I just sent to the commish of a league I recently joined.

Keep in mind that I am a 48 year old, business professional, married father of 4, ex -pro baseball player and a LONG time "sim-style" gamer. I have enjoyed MLB primarily for its MOM mode, but decided to try online this season as well. I have joined several leagues this year and they are all just getting going.

"Okay, you can drop me from this league, please.

Man, I thought you were going to have grownup, mature people play this league.

My FIRST GAME: vrs Mets (player name: ALLSTAR)

Quick pitches to keep you from stealing
Bunts, with 2 strikes, with LITERALLY every player, including CARLOS DELAGADO????

I suspect he paused while I was pitching on 3 ball counts 5 times...

But, EVEN AFTER ALL THAT< I am STILL winning 6-4 in the top of the 10th. He had just thrown a wild pitch to try and foil a squeeze I laid down with Tony Abreu, a true bunter. Wild pitched in the run, then gave up a single to Abreu to put me up by 2.

Broxton came up. We both had pretty used up the 5 minute timer, but, knowing he would not take the forfeit, when Broxton came up, OBVIOUS pinch hit situation since he had already pitched 1 2/3 and I had saito warming up, I try to pause to get a ph in. HE Quick pitches for strike one to Broxton. Then after that quick pitch, I paused..and he took the forfeit.

In IM, I ask him why would he do that, KNOWING I wanted to ph, and he calls me a cheese player for pausing and for "NOT THROWING ENOUGH STRIKES"!!!!????

So he took the forfeit because he thought my pitching was "cheese". He had 14 hits! he was stealing bases with RAMON CASTRO and JOHAN SANTANA!!! he had 7 bunt hits, including one with david wright! But I am the cheeser because I wont throw the ball down the middle???

So, if this is the type of guy in this league, count me out. Sorry man, but I wanted to play with grownups.

take care."

Now, if not throwing enough strikes, and yet not walking anyone, is cheese?? I mean, am I supposed to "lay it in" to the batter? Why not swing at strikes or go with a contact swing so that you can check-swing sometime instead of taking a power swing on EVERY PITCH YOU SWING AT???

Anyway, one less league to worry about.

This is why I will never play online.

It just takes one idiot to ruin it.

And there's usually more than one who will jump right in and do it.

Re: Now I remember why i have avoided online in the past!

Hey there Jon.

I am a 33 year old father of three who also has played baseball up to a semi-professional league.

In response to your amnesia lets begin!

Mind you this is a sim league where you have pitching rotation and a limit on how many innings a reliever can pitch as well as many other rules established. Those rules cleary state this is a sim style league where you can throw balls but it should be sim style. you know get ahead hit your spots expand the strike zone.

What you did was throw Brad Penny breaking ball after breaking ball in the dirt. The fastballs were thrown way above the strike zone.

Right from the start of the game you were not playing baseball but using the "VIDEO" games weaknesses to your advantage.

You scored four runs in nine innings. How did you score three of those runs?

Answer: The man squeezed them in.

I did resort to stealing and bunting due to his gameplay non-sense. I gave him a little taste of his own medicine so to speak.

I dont care if you pitch realistically and throw balls when you get ahead and your off the plate enough to get your outs. But whnever i had a man on base you were all over the place.

We all joined this league to avoid your style of BS and then you have the balls to come on to message board claiming someone else is at fault.

As for hitting X to avoid the loss ...

You forgot to mention that I let you call timeout on about six other occasions when your meter was out.

I did not quick pitch the pitcher. It was the second pitch of the at bat how would I have known you were going to pitch hit.

I hit X to throw the fastball and just as you hit timeout.

I even told the commisioner on the leagues BBS board to give you the win. But I also let the league know you play clown ball.

I don't need to justify myself to the commisioner, we have played online games together for years and he knows me personally.
I played the game the way you played it and now your gonna cry about it.

You can say whatever you want but we both know how the game was played.

All anyone needs to do is play you one time to see what your all about.

You're playing super mario brothers and we were trying to play a realistic style league. I hope you do leave because you sir are a ( | ) hole.

Re: Now I remember why i have avoided online in the past!

I will make this one, short reply, and then will NOt post in this thread again.

One, I squeezed in ONE run, not three.

Two, Explain to me why in the WORLD I should throw strikes to you , when ahead in the count, when you are clearly swinging for the fences on EVERY PITCH???? Where is your baseball sense? Why not MAKE me thrwo strikes by NOT swinging at everything??/

To Quote a line from a great baseball movie (as spoken by the late great Jerry Ohrbach) "Your NOT a Farmer! You don't have to swing at Sh!t in the dirt!!!"

As far as being an A-Hole...Clearly your maturity level speaks for yourself, as lying and using a fould name toward someone in a BBS Thread is what you resort to.

Take care kid.

Thats funny, I just played Jon1960 and didn't do anything that you are talking about. I was not there for that game so i can't comment, nor would I choose to do so. He played a straight up game w/ me and did nothing but played hard and professional

I could not have asked for a better time and more competitive game from Jon1960, and he played me straight up....I am not judging anyone here, all i know is he played a great, and i even won on a mistake that was not his fault, and he said take the win...so take that for what it's worth

Re: Now I remember why i have avoided online in the past!

John, I wouldn't avoid all online play because you had a bad moment. I've played almost 40 games online and a majority of these have been hard fought straight-up baseball games. However, you will run into people who are cheesy or think you are.

If he was doing the mass bunt attack on me you can bet your *** that he would see A LOT of balls from me. Assuming you are being honest, the tell-tale fact of the situation is that you had zero walks.

This may have been a frustrating game, but MLB(and baseball games in general) do a great job of self-regulating themselves. It is 100x harder to cheese and be a douche at this game then it is on a football game. Because to win at this game, you are relying on the opposing team(in a way) to help you win.

Sorry both of you had gameplay experiences, but I'm currently running a league and have played all of my owners once and have had 1-run games with 5(out of 7 other than myself). We play fun realistic baseball and are having an amazing time with it online. Find a group for you and you will have a fulfilling game experience.

Well, whats funny is that Allstar is my cousin, we grew up together, and have been gaming for many, many years. We are huge sports fans, and have been competeing on game controllers settling our Yankees/Mets, Jets/Giants disputes for a very long time. Despite Allstar being a Mutts fan (LOL!), he has ALWAYS played every game REALISTICALLY with RESPECT for the SPORT in question.

Right after the game he told me Jon was throwing breaking ball after breaking ball in the dirt, to go along with high fastballs way out of the strike zone. Bear in mind there is nothing wrong with throwing balls, but the league has RULES that clearly state you should be pitching REALISTICALLY meaning, trying to hit spots and get ahead of hitters, and if you get up 0-2, 1-2, by all means expand the strike zone or waste a pitch. You should NOT be throwing purpose balls the entire game. It gets old and tiring, and thats why the league has RULES, to keep it a baseball SIMULATION.

Also, Jon was abusing the games faults by squeezing in runners from thrid base EVERY TIME. Anyone who knows this game knows that the infileders simply get caught up in these slow animations which makes it impossible to make a play. You should NOT be trying to squeeze runners in with TWO OUTS, or even TWO STRIKES. Again, that is NOT SIM.

Well, if you really took the time to read my post and not worry so much about defending your cousin, you would see that I didnt call your cousin out or lay claim that Jon didn't do any of those things in their game. I simply stated that I just had played Jon and in our game, he threw balls and strikes and played very professional and by the book...its not like Jon is my Cousin, and I feel the need to defend him. That was the first time i ever played the guy and talked to him on-line.

If some how I offended you are your cousin by being honest about the game between Jon and myself, and I will gladly retract that part and apologize. I would highly suggest you read my post again, and then decide if I'm the guy who this should be directed at.
