The White Sox and Dodgers open the Wheelhouse Gang season with an evening game at U.S. Cellular Field. The Dodgers had Penny on the hill for them and the White Sox started with their #1 man Buehrle.

The White Sox jumped on the board early on a run scoring double by Thome in the first 1-0.

In the top of the second the Dodgers get the run back due to a triple caused by a non-responsive controller that sent the left fielder for a jog over to center field, lol! Tied 1 all.

Bottom of the second the Sox get the run back on a series of hits to bring the score to 2-1. The score could have been 3-1 but the White Sox got gunned down at the plate to end the inning.

The rest of the game both teams traded hits back and forth skirting with danger numerous times but could not pull off the big hit. The White Sox did a good job of elevating Penny's pitch count up in the 90's by the 7th inning.

Fast forward to the the 7th and Cabrera added an important insurance run with a solo blast to left center to knock Penny out of the ballgame.

Buehrle cruises through the 8th without incident and passes the ball off to Jenks to close out the game with a 3-1 win!

Notables:

-Pierre stole 5 times, one was uncontested! I pitched out and still could not throw him out. So heads up to everyone, he was a beast!

-L.A. pitchers had some control problems as Swisher and Pierzynski got plunked!

Good game jon1960ca! The game started off lag free but then by the 3rd and 4th we got bogged down! It cleared up but there were patches here and there!

I never thought I would be writing one of the recaps but here I am today.

The game, Cleveland Indiands (djo201) against Chicago Cubs (IrishWin34). The first 4 innings both starter pitchers, CC Sabathia and C. Zambrano, showed no-hit stuff. It was on the top of the 5th that the Cleveland Indians batted their first run in. Then, in the bottom of the same inning the Chicago Cubs tied the game with a HR at 1 run apiece. But the tie wouldn't last long, as the Indians brought in 3 runs in the top of the 6th, then 1 more run in the 7th and another in the 9th. But the Indians were not going with just 1 run, as they scored 1 run in the bottom of the 7th against CC Sabathia, who was still in the game at that point, and a 2-Run-HR in the bottom of the 9th against Rafael Perez before he shut down the final three batters, including Derek Lee and Aramis Ramirez, to get the save.

The pitchers for the Winning team, the Cleveland Indians were:

Personal Comment: Thanks IrishWin for such a great game. It was a very exciting game that had me sweating, specially in the bottom of the 9th where the 2-Run-Homer scared me.

Edit: Lag was minimal (at least for me), which made the game great, with fair strikeouts and hits.

As the first pitch thrown by Brandon Webb to Jimmy Rollins signaled the start of the Wheelhouse Gang, Coach Houtz knew he was in the big leagues now.

The First inning went by quick with neither team able to get a single hit off the opponent's pitcher. But with Geoff Jenkins leading off in the top of the 2nd, that would soon change.

On a 1-0 Pitch, Geoff Jenkins crushed the ball deep to center field to give the Phillies their first run in the 2008 season. Fortunately for them they wouldn't look back from here.

Brett Myers pitched 5 no hit innings until midway through the 5th inning. The Phillies were looking for an insurance run and got just that in the Top of the 4th inning.

With a man on 3rd and 1st with 2 outs Shane Victorino came up to the plate. He dug himself a hole going down 0-2 but after battling his way back he had a full count. The next pitch he smacked to center field for a base hit driving in the run.

2-0 Phillies

In the bottom of the 6th Arizona would break the shutout and Eric Byrnes would drive in a run from 3rd base pulling the Diamondbacks within 1.

This would send Brett Myers to the shower and bring in the left hander J.C Romero. Romero would give up two hits which would force Houtz to bring in "Flash" Tom Gordan. Gordan worked the Phillies out of a jam and ended the inning.

Bottom of the 8th with a man on first and one out Gordan threw a perfect pitch which allowed the Phillies to turn the double play ending the inning.

In the Bottom of the 9th the Phillies brought in closer Brad Lidge who would put the Diamondbacks out 1, 2, 3.

Phillies win 2-0. Great game TPerry!!!!!
