james bond-like gadgets installed in every car? rear discharging thumbtacks, smoke and oil spouts, front mounted rocket launchers, banana peel deployers?

Kenseth to change car numbers

Matt Kenseth's no 17 will change as part of a new soon to be announced sponsorship agreement. Roush Fenway Racing will make an announcement next Monday at the NASCAR Hall Of Fame, regarding a new number for Matt Kenseth's Sprint Cup ride as well as a new multi-year partner for RFR and teh 2012 Daytona 500 winner.

Re: The official 2012 NASCAR Thread

So a few more questions...
  1. I keep hearing people refer to the "rules package" from this past weekend. What does that mean? Is that referring to the car set-up, e.g. gear ratio, spoiler angle, etc.?
  2. Did this rule package affect the way the race was run? I remember a few years back a lot of that "love-bug" style of racing, where cars would essentially bump draft in pairs throughout most of the race. Is that what they were trying to get away from?
  3. Didn't they start using fuel injection in the cars this year? If so, doesn't that negate the need for a carburetor, therefore, wouldn't that eliminate the restrictor plate? Or am I just talking out of my hind end?

Instead NASCAR is listening to a bunch of armchair quarterbacks that have never sat in the seat of a racecar and doesn't know what they are talking about, and is listening to their suggestions as to what the sport should be doing.

(2) Fuel Injection isn't going anywhere, they are in their first year of it and learning from each problem to make it better.

(3) Have you seen the 2013 cars yet?

(4) Too fast ?!?!?! You want to race or watch the grass grow? I want to race.

Maybe, that has been a long time number in the Roush camp, but I don't think it will be. Here's why they said that they have inked a multi year deal with a new sponsor and that the sponsor is having influence on this change. Let me throw a couple of numbers out there and why a certain sponsor may want to change the number. First Jack Daniels and their slogan "Old Number 07" remember Richard Childress changed his car number for one of his cars from 30 to 07 when Jack Daniels come on board to sponsor Casey Mears, and Clint Bowyer. Another example 23 Dr Pepper boast that they are the only cola with 23 flavors, so what if Dr Pepper is the sponsor 23 would be a logical number choice, or 57 if its Heinz 57. There could be many different sponsors that want a certain number, but the best news in this is we are seeing a new sponsor come in on a multi year deal.
