I don't think they are doing person to person invites anymore, but if you sign up for emails, if you haven't already, you'll probably get an invite in an email.

There will be a new build in 2 weeks or so, and a new season will also be starting, so I'd imagine they'll send some more out then, but that's pure speculation on my part.

I won't be touching ASR or rF again, not in their current version anyways. Maybe a couple years down the road, when rF 2, and ASR 2 or whatever, have been released I might try them again.

I reinstalled rFactor the other night. Took the rF trainer around Lime Rock, and it felt like I was playing a game, as opposed to a sim. Doesn't feel the same, and doesn't give me the same sense of accomplishment anymore.

Are there things I don't like about iRacing? Yes, of course. But the positives outweigh the negatives even now in my book, and it's only going to get better.

Just my quick $.02.

Re: iRacing

Same as chaos...after iRacing for a couple of weeks, I tried rFactor for comparison and it was a joke.

Re: iRacing

Thanks, I've got my email signed up so I should get that invite sometime soon.

I just have to do a one month subscription to try it out.. if I stick with it, I'll just have to buy a car or track one time a month and that's not bad at all imo

Re: iRacing

Yeah, I signed up for just 1 month at first...this gets you all of the Rookie cars and tracks for free. This can keep you busy easily for a month or two (or more, if you just want to race Legends cars or Solstices). You could run Legends series or Solstice series forever if you wanted to...and not have to buy any additional cars or tracks.

I then realized after a couple of weeks that this is what I wanted in a racing sim...so I signed up for 1 year of service. This gives you an additional $65 in credit to spend towards cars/tracks. So I used that credit to buy the next step up -- Class-D series (Late Models and Skip Barbers)...and also bought a couple of tracks I would be needing for those series.

So technically, I haven't paid for any additional cars or tracks yet...just for 1 year of service. I will have to pay for 2-3 more tracks once the Class-D series get underway...so I'm looking at $30-$45 eventually. This will hold me over for at least the 12-week series for those cars. Again, I could now run Late Models, Skip Barbers, Legends, and Solstices forever...without having to buy any more tracks/cars. If not, I'd be looking at 2 more Car series and any other tracks those series might use that I don't already own. So maybe another $40-$50 around X-mas time.

Really, it's not too bad if you just buy the cars/tracks as you need them (as you move up in licenses/series). If you buy one or two $50 games every 3 months...this is about the same.

Or you can drop $350 or whatever it is all in one chunk, and have access to all cars/tracks from Day 1. Although you wouldn't be able to race all of them in official races until your License gets high enough.

Re: iRacing

Riley Mk XX Daytona Prototype will be coming to iRacing.

If you want in before the general release, and haven't signed up for email updates, do that when you get a chance. The next wave of invites will be in about two weeks. Then whoever is signed up for email invites, and hasn't gotten one yet, will be invited before the end of August. So by the end of August, everyone that's signed up for an invite will have one. That's the plan as of now anyways.

Thought some of you that were on the edge/waiting, would be interested in hearing this.

Re: iRacing

Couple of things I forgot. The 13th week racing this time around, and Barber Motorsports Park will be coming to iRacing.

Quote:
13th Week Racing Schedule Announced!

As many of you already know, the official FIRST Sporting Code, the set of rules by which all iRacing.com members are expected to abide, calls for an annual competition calendar of four 12-week seasons. What you may not know is that we've always envisioned a 13th race week at the end of each season. The 13th week is intended to be a time for championship races and other special events, but with this being our first season since taking the service live (and with most of our members having joined well after mid-season), this time, we've decided to just focus on having fun.

Starting Saturday, July 26, at midnight GMT, iRacing members of all license levels will have four new one-week series to choose from:

* "Solstice vs. Legends, Battle of the Titans"
* "Late Model Madness at Lowe's Motor Speedway"
* "SK Modified North and South Shootout"
* "Sabbatical in a Radical."

Each series will be open to all license levels and will feature larger fields - up to 40 Late Models at Lowe's! - and slightly longer race distances than the standard series we've been running. Participation will NOT affect your iRating or Safety Rating, BUT that's meant to minimize pressure and maximize fun, not create chaos. We still expect you to adhere to the FIRST Sporting Code.

There will not be any Time Trial or Qualifying sessions during the week, and series and club stats will not be kept. The only record of these unofficial races and your performance in them will be the results sheets that appear on your own Stats page (and, of course, your own vivid accounts of your on-track brilliance, as well as screen shots and frame-capture videos).

With these four series, we've tried to strike a balance between opportunities to race and have fun using content included in the basic subscription package and the chance for new challenges with cars and tracks in which members have expressed a lot of interest. For complete series schedules, watch for a 13th Week Schedule post in the forums under iRacing.com Announcements.

Remember, the Fall 2008 Season will begin on Saturday, August 3, at midnight GMT (for complete information, see the Fall 2008 Series and Session Schedules post in the forums under iRacing.com Announcements). The fall schedule includes more frequent races in the rookie series, the addition of Class C series for both road and oval categories and several other small improvements. Our plan is to add even more series and sessions, but we'll do so progressively to avoid fragmentation of the community.

We hope you enjoy both our first 13th Race Week and the start of the Fall 2008 Season.

What American race track has a steel sculpture of a giant arachnid as its visual hallmark? The answer is Alabama's Barber Motorsports Park, which is coming soon to iRacing.com, complete with its signature trackside spider. Opened in 2003, the Alan Wilson-designed 2.3-mile, 16-turn, flowing circuit (with a total of three configurations) is the epitome of the modern dedicated road-racing facility. The track hosts the Grand-Am series, SCCA club racing weekends and vintage and historic events, in addition to motorcycle races.

Re: iRacing

New homepage announcement.

Quote:
August 1, 2008 - New Season...New Series!
New Season
With awards for the Summer 2008 iRacing Season being distributed as you read this, the third iRacing competition season of 2008 is upon us. Starting Saturday, Aug. 2, at 8 p.m. EDT (Midnight GMT), the new season brings with it several significant changes to the iRacing service. Most immediately obvious is the season name.

Out of respect for our members in the southern hemisphere, we're adopting a numeric naming convention. Rather than "Fall 2008," this season will be known as "2008-Season 3" - a bit dry, we know, but we felt it was necessary for our growing global community. Season 3 will run through the end of October and be followed, predictably enough, by 2008-Season 4, starting in early November.

New Series
As previously announced, Season 3 will feature more frequent rookie races and more convenient scheduling of qualifying sessions and races for the higher-level series. The schedule will also include new Class C series, adding the Formula Mazda, Road America and Silverstone to FIRST-sanctioned road racing, and the USAC Silver Crown car, Atlanta, Homestead and Richmond to FIRST-sanctioned oval competition.

We're also pleased to announce a new series based on the success of our 13th Week Fun Races. The SK Modified Weekly Series will feature the same schedule of tracks as the Late Model series, with Practice and Time Trial sessions running every day. But in an effort to maintain full fields, Qualifying and Race sessions will be limited to the period between
8 p.m. EDT, Wednesday and 7:59 p.m. EDT, Thursday. Like the Late Model series, the SK Weekly Series will be open to drivers with Class D or higher oval licenses (or rookies with a Safety Rating of 4.0 or higher).

New members
The next wave of invitations to join iRacing.com will go out on Wednesday, Aug. 6. With several thousand invitations being distributed and a large influx of new members expected, we'd like to remind everyone of our Code of Conduct (section 1.4 of the FIRST Sporting Code).

New members, please remember that your primary focus should be on getting acclimated to the iRacing community and driving cleanly. Above all, always be respectful to your fellow members.

Experienced iRacers, remember to be patient with those new to our community and help them find their bearings. You know how important sportsmanship and courtesy are to all of us. Please lead by example.

Reminder! Please remember the August 29th Annual Subscription Bonus Program. All members with one-year subscriptions in place as of midnight GMT on that date will receive an additional $15 iRacing credit (on top of the $60 iRacing credit that you normally receive with the purchase of an annual subscription). For full information on this Bonus Program, please see the related post in the iRacing.com Announcements section of the member forums.

Re: iRacing

I sent PM's to a couple people trying to get some invites, but by the time I did it, those that had invites had sent them out.

Here's hoping you get in this time around.
