they won the cup that year bc of Therrien's d system.. yes, he was fired, but Bylsma only set them free a bit from it and was more aggressive on the forecheck. he even stated after the Cup win that his system was about 50% installed so to speak.

since then, it has been 100% Discos d system, lets take a look..

2010 - second round loss (Habs)
2011 - first round loss (Bolts)
2012 - first round embarrassment loss (Flyers)

Therrien just needed to let his guys forecheck more, combo that with his system that was in place, they were freakin beasts to play against. obviously, won a cup.

now, with that said, the d personal hasn't been the greatest, but it hasn't been the worst either. Disco and GMRS need to get that addressed this off season.. no excuses!!

Looks like Nashville is trading Radulov's rights, isn't really surprising. I thought he was gonna go back to KHL and come back in couple years and become a UFA anyways.

Also http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/sh....php?t=1202315 Luongo to Toronto done?

David Jones re-signed with Avs for 4 years 16M. Im not a fan of Jones but he could have gotten a lot more in FA so I dont mind the annual hit of 4M.

Yeah Nashville is shopping Radulov's rights to other teams right now trying to get something in return. If there are no takers, he probably goes back to the KHL:

Quote:
Radulov, through his agent, conveyed to us that he’s negotiating with the KHL, but that he’s also keeping his options open to staying in the NHL. Thus we have reached out to some teams in the NHL to see if there is any interest; our thought process in that is that Radulov is an asset and if we got something for him in the form of draft picks or younger players, we’d be better off. If none of that happens and he goes back to the KHL, we still retain his NHL rights and never say never on another chance.
GM David Poile also said that Andrei Kostitsyn will not be back for next season.

Huh? Really? There must be something I'm missing here, because from I can see, the Avs overpaid to keep him in Colorado since they are desperate for goals scorers and wingers. I can't imagine him getting much more than that on the open market.

I wonder if Holland would give Radulov a shot if some of the other goal scorers resign with their teams.

I do think Avs overpaid, but only by 500K or so. I think he's worth around 3.5M per year, but I could see him getting 4.5M per year in the FA market. Outside Parise and Semin, theer isn't much. If Ville Leino gets a 4.5M per year after scoring 19 goals in one year, a guy that scored 27 2 years ago and 20 this past year can get 4.5M. Also with the cap rising, don't think 4M is that bad.

Jones is also not a liability in the own zone and played during the PK after we traded Winnik and Galiardi. Jones has to play with Stastny all year though, he and Stas has chemistry together and I think Jones can get back to 25+ goals as well. I also think Mcginn-Stastny-Jones line was the best line for us down the stretch.

Why would anyone want Radulov? Talented yes, but when things don't go his way, he'll just go back to Russia. Not worth trading pieces for him.

Leino is a curious situation. I actually like him a lot, and was not happy when he was dealt. I was not surprised at all when he went off like a house on fire in the 2010 playoffs. That, along with a solid 2011 (19 G, 34 A, much more of a playmaker than Jones) and a Buffalo spending spree was what got him paid. Sadly, Buffalo didn't do their homework on Leino personality wise, and now he is stuck in Ruff's doghouse. I guess I can see that free agency has the ability to inflate prices, but I still think Jones (and Leino) were overpaid. I wouldn't call Leino a liability in his own zone either when he is playing well.

As far as Radulov goes, I think our coaching staff and locker room can get him playing well. He is obviously an dynamic force on the wing and we could use another goal scorer. If Babcock used him intelligently, like giving him mostly offensive zone starts and not trying to fit a square peg into a round hole like Nashville tried, I think it would work out for everyone. I would not give up anything significant, but maybe a 5th rounder like Philly traded to us for Leino would be worth a gamble.

I never wanted Leino at all. Ugh. He picked up a BIT towards the end, but....smh....waste.

Doubt it matters, if it came down to it I don't think Nashville would trade him to a divisional team just due to if he does get his head on straight he can hurt you. I think they'd let him go back to Russia before dealing him in the division unless its the Bluejackets.
