Leafs should battle for the 8th spot if James Reimer can repeat what he did last year. I'm also going to be following Matt Frattin very carefully as a friend of mine is a huge fan of his.

The Wild will have to get off to a better start than they did under Richards if they hope to battle for a lower playoff spot. Right now they're staying somewhere north of here and practicing at the rink where UMD plays. They've had some team-building exercises including spending the day with a drill instructor in the woods south of Superior. They had camoflouge shirts that said "Operation Urgent Fury".

I'm all for whatever they think helps them not lose about a bunch of games out of the gate again.

Those UND guys are usually pretty solid players.

Supposedly, the Rangers are waiving Avery today.

This is terrible, terrible news... for HBO's 24/7. I guess we'll have to settle for the Torts n' Pronger Show.

Re: The Official 2011-12 Regular Season Talk Thread

I've been a casual on-and-off viewer of Hockey for a while, but am really excited for this season. I didn't watch most of last season until the Stanley Cup, and that kind of sparked my interest in Hockey again.

Go Lightning!

Don't forget Larry Brooks!

This isn't really surprising in some ways as Avery strikes me as the kind of guy who wears his welcome out pretty easily. It'll be interesting to see who picks him up if any team indeed does.

Off topic, but am I correct in gathering that you're a Sabres/Suns/Braves/Texans fan living in LA? That's... unusual.

If you really want to gain insight, follow the man on Twitter. Only then will it all make sense.
