Which is fine, but this implies the suspension was punitive (and political, which of course it is), not preventive. I still haven't seen a post that illustrates what kids should be taught to prevent this from happening. Saying that they "should show some respect" means what, exactly?

If a league doesn't want hits like that, they should make checking illegal. Seriously. You can say that the hit was illegal, that it was charging, but it wasn't egregiously so, and for as long as you allow guys to hit, there's going to be an occasional charge. In a perfect world, everyone would be able to maintain the allowable limit at all times, but from experience we should know that's not how it works. The dude's hit wasn't egregious, it wasn't dirty, and he doesn't deserve to be punished like he is, not when the league has created the same exact circumstances they are now punishing him for.

^^^But it wasn't a clean hit though. The guy got called for charging meaning it wasn't a legal hit. That looked like a textbook charging penalty to me, his only intent was to drive the guy through the boards. The league doesn't have to make all hits illegal because they don't want hits they like that, they don't want hits like that because they are charging.

But I'm saying that as long as they allow hits, you're going to see hits like that. Especially when the penalty for charging is a 2-minute minor.

That's my point. Those hits are a part of the game. They're a little too much, so the guy gets two minutes and that's that.

It's just unfortunate that in this situation, the defender turned the wrong way at the wrong time and got real unlucky. The dude giving the hit didn't do anything close to be worthy of being suspended, let alone for an entire season.

It's not women's hockey.

Also Finelli was released from the hospital on Friday night.
