Pro Hockey>Can the Avs keep this up?

7-1-2 to start the season. A big surprise, even to those out here in CO who were expecting a major rebuilding season.

But, so far, the young kids have stepped up and played GREAT hockey. I love the fact that this team plays all-out every game, regardless of the score. Of course, keeping that intensity up over the course of an 82-game season is difficult but so far, it's refreshing to see players push themselves to be better and not just accept some pre-determined fate by the so-called "experts" that picked the Avs to finish last.

Anderson has been a great pickup in net, too. [Reply]

I don't think so. Maybe if Paul S. plays the whole year without an injury. You never know though. There always seem to a be a team that is not expected do to well, take off so hot. [Reply]

And then fall off as the season goes on. I think Anderson has been a great pick-up, but like I said in the person who had posted about the great start of the Thrashers, wait 'til the All-Star Break. If the Avs are still good then, I will take them more seriously, but not after the first month of the season.

They've had some impressive wins, but we'll see. [Reply]

I heard Joe T say it takes about 50 games before a hockey teams get going. Once they do then you will know who are the pretenders and who are for real. [Reply]

Yep their 9-1 now plus the division is alot weaker.
I told everyone about Anderson and that type of goaltending brings great confidence to the team and Sacco pretty dang good and pierres back also. [Reply]

Although the Avs are looking great and more then likely capable of picking up a playoff spot, this will not continue for so long. Anderson has been great along with the offense. [Reply]

The Avs have been outshot in 10 of their 13 games, often by a wide margin. They've won games in which they've been outshot 40-20, 49-23, 32-14. (I wonder if Martin Brodeur has EVER played in a game in which the Devils were outshot by 20?)

One of three things is going to happen:

1. Colorado will come back down to earth, and hard.
2. Colorado will improve defensively, and reduce those shot against totals.
3. Craig Anderson is going to be a no-brainer Hart Trophy winner.

All three are possible. One is more likely than the others. [Reply]

I think it is the fact that the good teams are still trying to get those legs going. I think the Avs are benefiting from the elite teams who have not got going yet. I say in about a month are sooner the teams that should be on top will be on top. Just an opinion. [Reply]

And it is a pretty realistic opinion.

The shots on goal differences are certainly alarming, that coupled with the fact that Anderson has been in net every game this year doesn't necessarily bode well for the team down the line.

I am excited they have been playing well thus far and while I expect some sort of a fall off, I doubt it will be a huge fall off in terms of the way they are playing and I would be shocked if they weren't in the hunt for the playoffs come the end of the year.

I agree with you in the fact that eventually the teams that started slowly will most certainly pick it up and overtake teams that have benefited thus far.

That said...10-1-2. Best start in franchise history! [Reply]
