Must've been a slow news day in Edmonton that day. Seriously though at least with Gretzky it's more understandable. That was an era when you just don't trade big name superstars like that especially one who's considered the greatest to ever wear a pair of hockey skates.

I think it would have taken more than a mass shooting spree or parliament being blown up to knock the Gretzky trade off the front page that day, lol.

Anyway, we'll see how Burke goes, no doubt the Leafs will be a playoff team again soon but it will be interesting to see what he does with a team thats been gutted already as opposed to walking into Anahiem where they already had a core of good players.

Glad Burke is aboard. Nice to see the fans get excited about something in this city. I think he will do a great job and good luck to him.

First thing he plans to do is bring a tough guy onto the team.

which is great because you don't want your 18 year old franchise d-men, doing all your dirty work.

But this will be after Christmas.

i bet $5 million IMAGINARY Tanzanian dollars that Burke rebuilds the leafs into a stanley cup contender by the end of his contract.

In essence, I bet 5 dollars

Eh, we've seen contenders (late '70s, early '90s) we want the cup.

Yeah...if he gets you close, but you lose, and then are completely salary cap hosed it's no good.

If you win the Cup, then Toronto won't care how horrible the team will be the year after....

He'd have to be out of his friggin' mind if he does that. Grabovski has proven that he has a scoring touch and is a fairly decent offensive threat. When he was in Montreal he had a reputation of being a bit of a suck because he didn't get much playing time but he's shined in Toronto.

The acquisition of Grabovski is the best move in the Fletcher 2.0 Era.

I say that move is at least on par with the McCabe trade. Van Ryn was the Leafs best defender before he got hurt. Also turned out to be a better player than McCabe in addition to being, younger, and cheaper. Though, that was more dumb luck than anything since Van Ryn was initially just salary coming back.
