Leaf and St. louis trade

Anyone read about this one?

Leafs trade Alex Steen and Carlos Colaiacovo to the Blues for Lee Stempniak.

Finally the Leafs got rid of some blueliners and an underachiever! and brought in a good young player!

The Leafs got a good player in Stemniak. I don't like this trade at all. Shame on you John Davidson.

Colaiacovo is a top four d-man if healthy. Unfortunately his injury problems are a huge concern. As for Steen, St. Louis already had one of him, his name is Jay McClement. I guess Steen might have more offensive upside and who knows, maybe he'll pull a Brad Boyes?

I hope so brother, you can't just trade away one of our key components to our 2nd ranked Power Play and not get anything serious in return.

The thing that gets me is that the leafs drafted both of those players. I know they didn't work out, and they're moving on, but this team has got to draft better if they're going to be dominant again.

Steen could be a real steal for the Blues. Also, keep in mind that the Leafs have a long history of making horrible trades.

Blues did an awesome job of selling high here. If Steen plays on a line with a real NHL'er (aka Tkachuk or something), he'll score 40-50 points. Frankly I don't think Stempniak is anything more than that, and also Steen makes less money and has more years left.

Probably right. Steen can be Stempniak or better, but he'll have to regain his confidence and re-imagine his NHL game after Paul Maurice decided he wanted to turn Steen into a shutdown guy.

Re: Leaf and St. louis trade

Yeah Steen has loads of potential and could be a 40-60 point man. And Colaiacovo could be a top for d-men.

Re: Leaf and St. louis trade

Let's put it this way, Steen will be another Brad Boyes.

That's all.
